Cardinals Defeated by Cornerstone

(Ann Arbor, MI) The Concordia Women's Soccer team faced off with Cornerstone University on Wednesday at Cardinal Stadium. Desptie their efforts, the Cardinals were unable to defeat the Golden Eagles and have now lost 3 of their last 4 contests.

After being blanked by Lourdes on Saturday, the Cardinals were determined to get on the board and to do it quickly. In the 16th minute Janaya Lothian (FR/Hamilton, Ont.) dribbled well into Golden Eagle territory along the right side of the field. A cross with the right found found Julia Palushaj right in front of the net to punch it in for the goal and a 1-0 lead. The score would stay until the half, but the second half would be all Cornerstone. The Golden Eagles evened the score in the 52nd minute when Lexie Brisson-Fast assisted a goal by Alexys Risken. Cornerstone scored again just minutes later—this time by Josie Litty who punched in an Alexys Riksen corner kick to take a 2-1 lead that would hold for the remainder of the game.

Concordia finished the game with 23 shots (11 on goal) and the Cardinal defense held the Golden Eagles to 11 shots. Julia Palushaj returned to the lineup after missing the two previous games with an injury and tallied 8 shots (4 on goal).

The Cardinals record now stands at 9-6-1 overall with a conference record of 5-3. With two games still to play, Concordia will look for their 10th win on Saturday, October 24 at Indiana Tech. Kickoff is set for 3:00pm.
