Volleyball falls in four sets to Siena Heights

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia volleyball hosted Siena Heights for a rivalry game on Friday evening in WHAC conference play. The Cardinals jumped out to a victory in set 1, but the Saints came back to win the match 3-1.

Claudia Grepke led the team with 13 kills. Madeline Vnuk had a team-high 31 assists. McKenzie Peters led the back end with 25 digs.

 

Set 1 – CUAA 25, SHU 15

Claudia Grepke had the first Cardinal kill of the game. Paige Staton recorded an ace and Grepke remained strong with a back-corner kill to go up 10-6. Breann June and Kayla Peters added a pair of kills each as Concordia continued to stay ahead. Two strong kills from Claudia Grepke clinched a 25-15 set 1 win.

 

Set 2 – SHU 25, CUAA 17

Claudia Grepke opened set 2 with a kill. Kayla Peters smashed 3 early kills as the Cardinals looked to keep it close. After Siena Heights went up 19-9, CUAA used a 5-1 run to pull closer. The Cardinals forced a long volley on the last point of the set, but the Saints closed set 2 to tie the match.

 

Set 3 – SHU 25, CUAA 14

Jessalyn Peavyhouse had Concordia's first kill in set 3. Breann June had two early kills for the Cardinals, but Siena Heights eventually built a 16-6 lead. Madalyn Lisman notched a kill and a block and Jessalyn Peavyhouse teamed up with Claudia Grepke and Breann June for blocks, but SHU took set 3.

 

Set 4 – SHU 25, CUAA 18

Claudia Grepke made the first Cardinal kill in set 4. Tara Drinane notched a kill and Madalyn Lisman and Kayla Peters combined for a block. Jessalyn Peavyhouse added two kills and Paige Staton made an ace, but Siena Heights was able to close the game with a set 4 win.

 

Concordia will remain at home to host rival Madonna on Wednesday, October 26 at 7pm
