Track and field hosts dual meet with Rochester at Thunder Sports Complex

Concordia Track & Field saw a number of personal bests in Wednesday's dual exhibition meet versus Rochester University. With the team missing the 2020 outdoor season because of the covid-19 pandemic, it had been 688 days since CUAA Track & Field last competed outdoors.

 

Today's meet featured traditional sprint and field events, and included a mixed gender sprint medley and 4x400m relay. The sprint medley relay (100m-100m-200m-400m) was run by Ameir Wilbourn (Fr; Chicago, IL), Hayle Flowers (Jr; Waverly, MI), Seneca Miller (Grad; Ypsilanti, MI) and Alan Jones (Sr; Canton, MI) in a time of 1:45.48. 

 

Miller and Jones went on to also run the mixed gender 4x400m relay with teammates Noah Starkey (Fr; Macomb, MI) and Sierra Stechebar (So; Rockford, MI) for a time of 4:09.72. Stechebar also competed in the women's high jump where she jumped to a new personal best of 1.55m. In addition to the relays, Miller ran in the open 400m where she ran a personal best of 1:01.25.

 

Rounding out the track events, Wilbourne also ran in the 100m dash, running 11.42 with teammate Kash Warren (Jr; Lorain, OH) just behind him in a time of 11.67. The duo also ran in the open 200m with Jones. Jones took the win with a time of 22.75, Warren just behind him (23.37) and Wilbourn cruising to a new personal best of 24.09.

 

In the field events, senior Eric Bugg (Ida, MI) saw big success across all four throwing events, including taking the win and throwing a new school record in the men's hammer with a heave of 47.20m. Bugg also took first place in the javelin throw (45.05m), first in the shot put (13.52m) and second place in discus with a new personal record of 36.60m. 

 

Additionally, Zach Belinsky (So; Beulah, MI) snagged third place in the discus with a toss of 33.16m, and third in shot put (10.96m) and wrapped up the day in the hammer throw (29.82m). Senior Noah Pastrana (Dayton, OH) took third in the hammer with a throw of 32.06m and also competed in the discus throw for the first time (26.72m). Richard Branch (Jr; Detroit, MI) also competed in the shot put (10.27m), javelin throw (37.75m), and for the first time in the hammer throw (27.48m). Josh Wood (Fr; Champagne, IL) earned fresh outdoor marks in the shot put (6.35m) discus (19.64m) and hammer throw (21.01m). 

 

Jumpers Ethan Szabados (So; Brownstown, MI) and Zach Yoder (Jr; Mt. Pleasant, MI) both competed in the men's high jump today, with jumps of 1.70m and 1.80m, respectively for third and second place. Yoder went on to compete in the men's long jump, taking third with a jump of 5.35m. Wilbourn rounded out the long jump with a jump of 3.94m. 

 

On the women's side, Flowers saw big success today in the women's shot put, throwing a personal record of 9.03m for second place. Flowers also competed in the javelin throw (22.75m) to take second place, and competed in the discus throw (27.20m) and high jump (1.30m). Fellow thrower Alyvia Hock (So; Manchester, MI) took third in the shot put with a heave of 7.37m and also competed in the discus throw (29.60m). Junior thrower Payton Lovins (Wauseon, OH) competed in the discus (19.45m) and hammer (24.08m) throws, new events for Lovins. She also competed in the shot put with a toss of 7.14m.
