Cardinals open outdoor season at Bill Bippes Cougar Classic

(Spring Arbor, MI) Concordia men's track & field opened their outdoor season at the Bill Bippes Cougar Classic hosted by Spring Arbor University this weekend. The two-day meet featured nine teams including fellow WHAC schools Cleary, Lourdes and Siena Heights University. 

 

The men's 4x800 relay comprised of Noah Finley (Monroe, MI), Avery Sanchez (Allen Park, MI), Adam Dahl (Owosso, MI) and Michael Brannan (Dearborn, MI) 4x800 kicked off the meet, running 9:47.33. Brannan also went on to take 5th in the men's javelin with a personal best throw of 40.12m.

 

Freshman Luke Bentz debuted in the 1,500m event, running 4:19.73. He ran alongside sophomore teammate Theodore Eising (Royal Oak, MI) who crossed the line in a time of 4:37. The duo also competed in the 800m run, running 2:10.68 and 2:11.98, respectively.

 

In the sprints, freshman Jeremiah Salas (Decatur, MI) took 2nd in the 100m dash, running 11.44. Fellow sprinters, Moe Kado (Hanover, NH) and Scott Smith (Saginaw, MI) also ran in the 100m dash, running 11.95 and 11.96, respectively. Kado went on to compete in the 200m dash, running 25.65 and competed in the long jump, jumping 5.18m. 

 

Also in the 200m was Salas who ran a time of 23.63. He was joined by Logan Hay (Houston, TX), Noah Starkey (Macomb, MI), and Andrew Wiemer (Meridian, ID). The trio ran 24.03, 23.91, and 24.91, respectively. Hay, Starkey and Wiemer also ran the 400m dash together, running 54.45, 55.91 and 56.81, respectively.

 

The throws squad saw some personal bests with junior Zachary Belinsky (Beulah, MI) tossing 34.24m in the hammer throw. Belinsky also threw 32.63m in the discus and 11.37m in the shot put. Senior Richard Branch (Detroit, MI) also saw a personal best, throwing 33.51m in the discus throw. Branch also threw 12.38m in the shot put,  32.9m in the hammer and 39.32m in the javelin where he took 6th place. Fellow javelin thrower Zachary Yoder debuted in the event with a toss of 37.79m. Smith also debuted in the javelin throw, tossing 39.30m. He went on to compete in the hammer throw, throwing 29.25m, and tossing 11.14m in the shot put. Sophomore Joshua Wood (Champagne, IL) saw a personal best in the hammer, throwing 21.11m, and competed in the  discus throw with a toss of 21.71m. Rounding out the throwers were freshmen Jordan Ponce (Milan, MO) and ToRohn Yancey (Detroit, MI). The duo threw 10.43m and 11.37m, respectively in the shot put, and 26.02m and 25.87m in the discus throw. Yancey also competed in the hammer throw, tossing 26.7m in his event debut.
