Cardinals host 2nd annual Alumni Legacy Meet; earn multiple spots at NCCAA Championships

(Ann Arbor, MI) Concordia men's track and field hosted the 2nd annual Alumni Legacy Meet at Thunder Sports Complex in Ann Arbor this past weekend. The meet featured ten teams and paid homage to Concordia's graduating seniors and alumni. The Cardinals brought home a number of National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) qualifications and personal best performances. 

 

Senior Kash Warren (Lorain, OH) kicked off the team's strong performances with a personal best and NCCAA qualifying time of 10:92 in the 100m dash for a 3rd place finish. He would also run 23.15 in the 200m dash for a 5th place finish. Also punching his ticket to NCCAAs in the 100m dash was freshman Jeremiah Salas (Decatur, MI). Salas crossed the finish in a time of 11.13 in the finals for a 5th place finish. He would also go on to run a personal best time in the 200m, running 22.46 and finishing 2nd. Also running in the 200m was Andrew Weimer (Junior; Meridian, ID) and Logan Hay (Freshman; Houston, TX). Weimer ran 24.11 and Hay ran 23.78 for personal best times. The 400m event saw races from sophomore Noah Starkey (Macomb, MI), Wiemer and junior Adam Dahl (Owosso, MI). The trio ran 54.13, 54.23, and 58.86, respectively with a personal best time for Dahl. The 4x100 relay team of Jordan Foy (Columbia, SC), Starkey, Salas and Warren saw a personal best time, running 43.19. Foy also competed in the 100m dash, running 12.11. Maurice Kado (Beechwood, OH) competed with Foy in the same event, running 11.83 for a personal best time. Kado also jumped 5.00m for an 8th place finish. 

 

In the distance events, junior Avery Sanchez (Allen Park, MI) ran a personal best time in the 3,000m steeplechase, crossing the finish in a time of 11:04.17 and a 3rd place finish. The trio of Luke Bentz (Freshman; Fort Wayne, IN), Noah Finley (Freshman; Monroe, MI) and Dahl ran the 800m together. Bentz ran 2:07.95 for a season's best performance and a 5th place finish, Finley ran 2:23.69 for a personal best time and Dahl ran 2:38.35. Junior Michael Brannan (Dearborn Heights, MI) also competed in the 800m, running 2:11.87 for a 6th place finish. Bentz and Finley competed in the 1,500m event together with Bentz running a personal best time of 4:19.69 and Finley running 5:24.68. Sophomore Theodore Eising (Royal Oak, MI) debuted in the track 5,000m running 17:51.58.

 

Wrapping up the track events, the 4x400 relay comprised of Starkey, Weimer, Hay and Brannan ran a time of 3:41.93 for a 2nd place finish. 

 

The javelin squad saw personal bests across the board. Debuting in the event, Mason Wyllis (Holt, MI) bettered his performances in each of his attempts, finishing with a toss of 36.36m. Michael Brannan punched his ticket to NCCAAs alongside Scott Smith (Freshman; Saginaw, MI). Brannan saw an 8th place finish with a toss of 46.18m and Smith threw 43.10m with the javelin. Senior Richard Branch (Detroit, MI) hurdled the javelin 52.87m for a 3rd place finish. In the shot put, Branch heaved the shot 12.80m for a 7th place finish with ToRohn Yancey (Freshman; Detroit, MI) just behind him for 8th place with a personal best toss of 12.56m. Junior Zachary Belinsky (Beulah, MI) competed in finals with a toss of 12.46m in the same event. Belinsky, Yancey and Joshua Wood (Champagne, IL) also competed in Day 1 throwing events - the hammer and discus throws. In the hammer throw, the trio saw distances of 37.90m, 31.02m, and 23.88m for Belinsky, Yancey and Wood, respectively. Yancey would see personal best marks in all three of his events, including a toss of 28.71m in the discus throw. Also competing in the same event was Belinsky and Wood with tosses of 32.12m and 21.32m, respectively.
