Season Preview: Women's Lacrosse ready to hit the field in 2024

 

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's lacrosse is preparing to begin their 2024 campaign.  The Cardinals will look to improve upon their 3-11 season last year, returning 10 players while welcoming 9 newcomers to the team.  Autumn Moore will be entering her 3rd season at the helm.

 

2023 Season Review

Concordia finished 3-11 overall with a 2-7 WHAC record.  The Cardinals downed Tennessee Wesleyan 14-9 for their first win of the year.  CUAA defeated rival Madonna 16-14 and blanked Rochester 20-0 to close out the year.

 

2024 Schedule Outlook

Concordia will travel to Anderson on February 22 at 4:00pm to start the season.  The Cardinals will stay on the road to face Tennessee Wesleyan and Georgetown to close out the month.

In March the team plays contests at Missouri Baptist, Culver-Stockton, and Marian.  The Cardinals then come back for a 5-game homestand, starting on March 13 versus Midland at 1:00pm.  A home game against Keiser rounds out the non-conference slate.  CUAA will then start WHAC play by hosting Bethel on March 21 at 3:00pm.  After playing host to Indiana Tech and Lawrence Tech, the team travels to rival Siena Heights to close the month.

April starts with a road contest at Aquinas.  The Cardinals will host rival Madonna on April 6 at noon for the final home game of the regular season.  A road game at Rochester closes out the regular season slate.

 

Concordia Personnel

Grad Students: Madisyn Fox returns after notching 20 goals, 36 ground balls, and a team-high 20 caused turnovers.

Seniors: Isabella Komarowski led the team with 24 goals while adding 34 ground balls and draw controls.  Taylor Armstrong scored 17 goals, had 28 ground balls and a team-high of 49 draw controls.  Tara Drinane scored 7 goals with an assist.  Megan Soop ran the offense well and picked up 10 ground balls.

Juniors: Alana Mortimer had 4 goals while adding 26 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers.  Molly Burks saw action in 3 games and caused a turnover.   

Sophomores: Michaela Ullery returns as the team's goalie, picking up 2 wins with 77 saves last year.  Savannah Schmidt scored 2 goals last season.  Sara Kaczmarek adds depth at attack.

Newcomers: The Cardinals have added 9 newcomers: freshmen Alicia Gutierrez, Brynn O'Neil, Cecilia Gibson, Destiny Daniels, Eleanor Wyszczelski, Jessica Schmidt, Madeline Turcotte, Mariessa Zarazua, and McKenna VanZant.

 

Head coach Autumn Moore is joined by assistant coach Brad Ashby.  Former standout Nicole Bordo will serve as team manager.
