Women's Tennis comes up short in season opener against Albion

(Ypsilanti, MI) Concordia Women's Tennis opened up their season at home against the Albion Britons. The Cardinals fell just short of victory, with Albion coming away with the 4-3 win.

 

The Cardinals won the doubles point by taking the top two matches. Hollie Johnson and Jadyn Hackmann took the top double match (6-4) while Savannah Borrego and Jules Meads won the second match in a tiebreaker (7-6, 7-6). Jorja Vartoogian and Mara Strock were swept in the third match, but the Cardinals came away with the doubles point.

 

In singles action, the Cardinals also took the top two matches. Savannah Borrego won a tightly contested #1 match (7-5, 6-3) and Jules Meads swept her opponent in the first set, ultimately winning the #2 match (6-0, 7-5). Hollie Johnson came close in her first set before going down in the fourth slot (5-7, 1-6). Jadyn Hackmann took a pair of games in the #3 match while Jorja Vartoogian took a game in the #5 match. Mara Strock played in the sixth slot of the Cardinals, falling (0-6, 0-6).

 

The Cardinals will return back to the Chippewa Club Saturday afternoon for a 3:00 pm bout with Franklin College.
