Women's Tennis comes up short in pair of WHAC matches

(Ann Arbor, MI) The Concordia Women's Tennis Team took to their home court for the first time this spring for a pair of conference matches. On Monday, the Cardinals took Lourdes down to the final point, falling just short 4-3. On Tuesday, the Cards hosted Indiana Tech and fell 6-1 to the Warriors.

 

Concordia 3, Lourdes 4

The Cardinals won the doubles point, as they were victorious in two out of the three matches. Savannah Borrego and Jules Meads swept the top doubles match to get things started. Jacey Powell and Sarah Eggelmeyer fell in a close second match, coming up just short at 6-4. Jorja Vartoogian and Mara Strock were the deciding factor in the doubles series, winning the third slot 6-2.

 

In singles action, Jacey Powell lost the top match, only getting one game in the first set, but taking 5 games in the second set. Savannah Borrego took two games in each of her sets, ultimately falling to her opponent in the second slot. Jules Meads fought hard to earn a point for the Cardinals, winning (6-4, 7-5). Jorja Vartoogian earned the third and final point for Concordia, winning in the sixth slot (6-0, 6-2). Mara Strock came up short in the fifth singles match with the Gray Wolves winning (6-3, 6-1). Sarah Eggelmeyer was able to take a game in the fourth slot for Concordia.

 

Concordia 1, Indiana Tech 6

Indiana Tech secured the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. Savannah Borrego and Jules Meads took a game in the top slot before falling, as did Jacey Powell and Sarah Eggelmeyer in the second match. Jorja Vartoogian and Mara Strock won the third match by default.

 

In singles play, Mara Strock won Concordia's lone point of the day in the sixth slot by default. Sarah Eggelmeyer earned the next most games for the Cards, taking three games before falling. Savanna Borrego and Jules Meads each took a game in the second and third slots respectively. Jacey Powell and Makayla Steinmetz were swept in their matches.

 

 

The Cardinals will be on the road next Saturday, April 5th for a pair of matches against Grace Christian and Saint Francis (IN).
