Women's Track and Field see's Korte break 2 records, while Belinsky hits NCCAA mark

(University Center, MI) - The Women's Track and Field team returned to Saginaw Valley for the Doug Hansen Invitational on Friday, January 20. The Cardinals earned 10 personal records and 4 new collegiate marks and 1 NCCAA Qualifier.

Lena Korte continued where she left off last week. As Korte again set new college records, this time in both shot putt and weight throws. Korte once again broke her weight throw record with a distance of 14.26 meters. Korte finished in fifth place in the shot put with the school record of 12.74 meters.

Shot put saw big performances across the board as Elsa Clausen, Quinn Stefanski, and Hailey Stasiukinas all earned personal records. Clausen threw 10.06 meters, Stefanski threw 9.33 meters and Stasikukinas threw 8.51 meters.

Clausen and Stefanski also competed in weight throw alongside Morgan Jenkins. Jenkins was second on the team with a distance of 12.51 meters, she was followed by Clausen at 10.54 meters and 9.98 meters.

Sierra Stechebar competed in both the high jump and triple jump. Stechebar cleared 1.43 meters and jumped 9.18 meters in the triple jump.

In Sprints, Emily Belinsky led the way with a personal record time of 10.15 in the 60 hurdles, while also hitting NCCAA qualifying time. Belinsky also ran a personal record in the 200 meters with a time of 28.14 seconds.

Also competing in sprinting events was Hope Renfer in the 60 and 200-meter dash. Renfer finished in 8.46 seconds for the 60 and tied her personal record. She then ran 28.77 seconds for the 200. Chloe Evans made her collegiate debut in the 200, finishing in a time of 29.46 meters.

Amanda Fogo and Alison Doerr led the distance side of things, by each setting new personal records in the 3000 meters. Fogo finished six seconds faster than last week, with a finishing time of 13:09. While Doerr improved by 9 seconds with a finishing time of 13:52.

Chloe Gunter returned to run an 800 meter with a finishing time of 2:55.

Mary Salem, Madisyn Flamini, and Madelyn Ankoviak all made their collegiate debuts in the 400 meters with finishing times of 1:15, 1:18, and 1:24.

The team will be back in action on Saturday, January 28 at Hillsdale College for the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic.
