Women's Track and Field places 6th at WHAC Championships

(Fort Wayne, IN) - The Women's Track and Field team competed at Indiana Tech for the WHAC Championships on Friday, February 17, and Saturday, February 18. The Cardinals earned a 6-place finish with a total of 16 points. The team also had 9 personal records and 1 school record.

Lena Korte continues to be a driving force for the woman's team. As she once again rebroke her own school record in the shot put with a distance of 13.40 meters. In doing so, Korte also earns WHAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors with a second-place finish and gave the team 8 points.

Korte continued to lead the team as she went to weight throw by earning a sixth-place finish and three more points for the team.

Also competing in throwing events were Quinn Stefanski, Elsa Clausen, Hailey Stausikinas, and Aaliyah Mcintosh. Stefanski finished with throws of 8.90 meters in the shot put and 10.74 meters in the weight throw. While Clausen had throws of 8.52 meters in the shot put and 12.07 meters in the weight throw. Stausikinas finished with a distance of 8.52 meters. MacIntosh finished with a distance of 6.45 meters.

In other field events, Stausikinas had a jump of 4.41 meters in the long jump. Sierra Stetchebar jumped 9.37 meters in the triple jump.

In running events, the relays led the way when it came to points. The 4x400 relay of Emily Belinsky, Chloe Evans, Mary Salem, and Sierra Stetchebar earned a sixth-place finish and three points with a time of 4:29.33.

The 4x800 relay team of Alison Doerr, Chloe Gunter, Amanda Fogo, and Mary Salem competed on Friday night and earned seventh place and two points with a time of 11:44.76.

The distance crew led the way with six of the nine personal records. Madisyn Flamini earned personal records in both the 600 and 800. She finished with times of  2:04.31 and 3:12.71. Gunter and Salem each earned personal records in the 800 with times of 2:49 and 2:50. Fogo and Doerr competed in the 3000 meters, where each earned personal records. Fogo finished at 12:52, while Doerr finished at 13:18. 

In sprinting events, Belinsky ran a new personal record in the 200-meter dash with a finishing time of 27.93. Belinsky also competed in the 60 hurdles on Friday. Where she finished in a time of 10.28 seconds. Evans competed in the 400 and ran a new personal time of 1:07.46.

While most of the team has their indoor season comes to an end with the conference championships. Korte will head to Brookings, South Dakota for the NAIA National Championships on March 2-4. The next time the whole team will compete will be at Spring Arbor on March 31 and April 1  for the Bill Bippes Classic to start their outdoor season.
