Kleinfelter named WHAC and NCCAA Pitcher of the Week

(Ann Arbor, MI) – The Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and National Christian College Athletic Assocation announced their weekly player of the week recipients on Monday afternoon and Tyon Kleinfelter was named the WHAC and NCCAA baseball pitcher of the week. Kleinfelter led the Cardinals to two wins last week and totaled 16 strikeout.

In Kleinfelter's first appearance last Monday, he dominated Indiana Tech in seven innings of work leading to an 8-0 victory. Kleinfelter allowed only six hits while striking out six batters.

In the second game of the week, Kleinfelter recorded 10 strikeouts in another dominating performance while nearly missing a no-hitter. It was his second double digit strikeout game of the year as he tallied 11 earlier this season in a win over Thomas More. Rochester only managed two hits on Kleinfelter in six innings of work and did not allow a walk. The Cardinals defeated Rochester 17-2.

In six appearances this year, Kleinfelter is 5-0. He leads the Cardinals with 42 innings pitched and 45 strikeouts. He's also posted a team low ERA of .86.

This is the first time that Kleinfelter has been recognized by the WHAC and NCCAA for his performances. Kleinfelter joins teammate Timothy Pomaville as the other Cardinal to be recognized by the NCCAA this season.

The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, April 7th when they host UM Dearborn in a non-conference double header.
