WHAC Preview: Cardinals set to host opening round in WHAC Tournament

The Cardinals concluded their regular season on Wednesday afternoon hosting Rochester University. The Cardinals defeated the Warriors 15-4 bringing their season record to 36-15 overall and 14-5 in the WHAC. Coach Johnston's ball club earned the second seed in the WHAC tournament and was awarded a host site. The Cardinals will host the third and fourth seeds in the tournament which will be University of Northwestern Ohio and Cornerstone University. The double elimination tournament will begin on Thursday morning with the first game set to take place at 10am

 

Tournament Information:

Tickets: Spectators from all teams are welcomed. The WHAC tournament is a ticketed event with no pass list. Tickets for agest 5+ will be sold through online through day passes which will get spectators into all games that day. Passes will be sold for $10 on Thursday and $8 on Friday.

About the Golden Eagles

Record: 18-14 overall, 13-9 WHAC

Coach: Chuck Lowitzki (5th season, 93-107-1)

The Cardinals and Golden Eagles split during the regular season. The Cardinals took game one at Cornerstone on Monday, April 12th, 6-1. The Golden Eagles defended their home field in game two and came away with the thrilling 7-6.

Statistically, the Golden Eagles are led by Austin Hurt with a batting average of .400. He also leads the team with 38 RBIs and a slugging percentage of .717. Jordan Wenzel leads the team with 53 hits and has a batting average of .390.

Chandler McKinney leads the Golden Eagles on the mound with 9 appearances and 6 starts. He's pitched 38 total innings and has an ERA of 4.46

 The Golden Eagles are making their first appearance in the WHAC Tournament since 2017. They squared off against top ranked UNOH and were defeated 12-2. They were eliminated by Madonna in the next game 8-0.

Coach: Kory Hartman 328-206-1

The Racers and Cardinals split during the season. On March 28th the Cardinals took game one at Cardinal Field, 12-7. The Racers took game two in an halted 6 inning game, 3-2.

Statistically, the Racers are led by Don Goodes with a batting average of .396, 47 runs, 59 hits, and 21 stolen bases. Drew Clavenna and Jake Carlsen have the Racers aces to date with 12 and 11 starts respectively. Clavenna has an overall record of 8-4 as a starter with Carlsen posting a 5-3 record.

The Racers have a long history of success in the WHAC tournament under Coach Hartman. In their most recent appearance (2019), they were eliminated by Indiana Tech in back to back games. The Racers won the tournament in 2017.
