FINAL RESULTS

(Ann Arbor, MI) – The Cardinals first competition of the season looked slightly different than those in past seasons. Concordia hosted the first virtual cheer competition in school history at the Cardinal Invite Saturday night. The competition featured Concordia, Indiana Wesleyan, Mount Vernon and St. Francis. Coach Edge's squad gave a complete performance leading to a first place finish. The Cardinals recorded a high score of 78.92 to edge out the Wildcats of Indiana Wesleyan.

Concordia received a raw total of 237.5 with a subtotal of 79.167. After a 0.250 deduction, the Cardinals' final score of 78.917 was enough to start the season on a winning note. Indiana Wesleyan followed closely on the Cardinals' heels with a total score of 77.167, followed by St. Francis with 70.167 and Mount Vernon with a total score of 54.267. The judges rewarded the Cardinals in the areas of jumps, pyramids, showmanship/general impression, and difficulty.

Head Coach Kate Edge was proud with how her team came out calm and confident in their opening performance of the season. "They brought the energy and execution that was necessary to win this competition as well as develop in their chemistry and cohesiveness as a unit moving forward," said Edge.  The coaching staff was extremely proud of their athletes hitting the goals that they set for themselves at this meet and are on pace with where they would like to be at this point.

The Cardinals will travel to Indiana Wesleyan University in Marian, Indiana, for the IWU Invitational next weekend on January 23rd. The start time for the competition will be announced later this week.
