WHAC Preview: Cardinals set to host WHAC Competitive Cheer Championship on Saturday afternoon

The Concordia cheer team will take to the mat for the sixth time this season on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals will serve as the rotational host for the WHAC Competitive Cheer Championship. The Cardinals will look to earn their third consecutive conference championship.

Saturday, February 27th - Event Schedule

Concordia University – Cardinal Field House – Due to the 25% capacity per Michigan Department of Health guidelines, outside spectators will not be permitted. A limited number of internal guests of Concordia will be approved. Other essential staff, participants, administrators, etc will be permitted as well.

The WHAC Championship will feature six teams; Aquinas, Concordia, Lourdes, Rochester, Siena Heights, and Point Park.

Teams will compete for the WHAC Championship with each team performing two routines. The first routine will be the preliminary round which will count towards 25% of the overall score. The Final round score will make up 75% of the overall score. The championship event also serves as the direct qualifier for the NAIA Competitive Cheer National Championship.

 

2020 Results

 Coach Edge has led her talented squad to back to back conference championships while also earning Coach of the Year honors. The 2020 result was very close as the Cardinals narrowly edged out Lourdes, 86.88 - 86.55. The Cardinals led WHAC with 7 first team all-conference members. Senior Morgan Raby who was also named Cheerleader of the Year. The Cardinals went on to secure an at-large bid for the NAIA National Championship before having it canceled due to COVID-19. 

 

 

WHAC Awards

The WHAC will honor participating members that have achieved success in the classroom, on the mat, and in the community. The all-conference selections voted on by the WHAC coaches will be selected as well as all-academic for those that are of junior status and have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.25. Each school has nominated a student-athlete that has embodied the five core values of the NAIA which are respect, integrity, servant leadership, responsibility, and sportsmanship.
