Men's Track and Field open 2022 year at Defiance Invite

(Defiance, OH) - Concordia men's track and field opened in 2022 with a number of personal bests at the Dick Small Invite, hosted by Defiance College. 

 

The distance trio of Luke Bentz (Fort Wayne, IN), Theodore Eising (Royal Oak, MI) and Avery Sanchez (Allen Park, MI) all raced in the 3,000m. Eising led the way, running 10.30.16. Bentz and Sanchez trailed, running 10:52.25 and 10:55.94, respectively. Sanchez went on to run the 800m, running 2:21.31 for a fourth-place finish.

 

On the sprint side, freshman Jeremiah Salas (Decatur, MI) saw success in both the 60m dash and 200m, running personal bests in both events. Qualifying for finals, Salas ran 7.32 in the 60m. He also ran 23.66 in the 200m where he took second place. Fellow sprinter Kash Warren (Lorain, OH) also competed in the 60m dash, running 7.28 in the prelims and 7.32 in finals. Rounding out the sprinters was freshman Scott Smith (Saginaw, MI), who ran 7.61 in the 60m. Smith also competed in the throwing events where he saw personal bests in the shot put (10.95m) and competed for the first time in the weight throw (9.45m).

 

Throwers ToRohn Yancey (Detroit, MI) and Joshua Wood (Champagne, IL) competed in both throwing events. Yancey threw a personal best in the shot put with a toss of 10.61m and opened his weight throw career with a 9.49m throw. Wood is also a personal best in the weight throw. Wood went on to throw 8.39m in the weight, and 6.75m in the shot.

 

Rounding out the field events was senior Zachary Yoder (Mount Pleasant, MI). Yoder jumped 1.78m in the high jump to secure a second-place finish.
