Men's Indoor Track & Field season concludes at WHAC Championships

(Grand Rapids, MI) Concordia men's track and field competed at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championships on Friday and Saturday February 18-19, 2022, in Grand Rapids, MI hosted by Aquinas College. The Cardinals finished 7th as a team.

 

The track team opened on Friday with an 8th place finish in the 4x800 relay. The team of Noah Finley (Monroe, M), Theodore Eising (Royal Oak, MI), Avery Sanchez (Allen Park, MI) and Luke Bentz (Fort Wayne, IN) crossed the finish line in a time of 9:06.77. 

 

The distance crew also went on to run individual events. Finley took to a new event in the mile, running 5:42.47. Bentz ran a time of 2:05.6 in the 800m. Sanchez ran 3:00.53 in the 1,000m, and Eising ran 9:55.22 in the 3,000m.

 

The sprints squad of Kash Warren (Lorrain, OH), Logan Hay (Houston, TX), Andrew Wiemer (Bratenhal, ID) and Moe Kado (Hanover, NH) all ran the 200m. Warren lead the pack running 23.45, Salas clocking 23.86, Hay running 24.12, Mo crossing the finish at 25.95 and Wiemer running 26.02. Warren and Kado also ran the 60m, running 7.26 and 7.73, respectively.

 

On the field side, senior Zachary Yoder (Mt. Pleasant, MI) took 6th in the high jump, clearing 1.81m (5'11.25"). Junior Ethan Szabados (Brownstown, MI) also competed in the high jump. 

 

Competing in the throwing events were Richard Branch (Detroit, MI), Zachary Belinsky (Beulah, MI), Scott Smith (Saginaw, MI), ToRohn Yancey (Detroit, MI) and Joshua Wood (Champagne, IL). Branch saw a personal best in the weight throw with a toss of 13.39m (43'11") and threw 12.98m (42'7") in the shot put. Belinsky threw 12.78m (41'11") in the weight throw, 11.74m  (38'6") in the shot put. Smith saw personal bests in both events where he threw 11.52m (37'9.5") in the weight throw and 11.40m (37'4.5") in the shot put. Yancey tossed 9.75m (31'11.75") in the weight throw and 11.32m (37'1.5") in the shot put. Finally, Wood threw 8.18m (26'10") in the weight throw and 6.58m (21'7") in the shot put.

 

Closing the meet was the men's 4x400 relay team. Warren, Hay, Bentz and Wiemer ran a time of 3:40.84 for 7th place finish.

 

This event concluded the indoor season for the Cardinals. Concordia Track & Field will begin the outdoor season on April 1-2, 2022, at the Bill Bippes Cougar Classic hosted by Spring Arbor University. Keep up with the Cardinals by following the team on social media - CUAAXCTF.
