Men's Track & Field competes at Wide Track Classic

(Hillsdale, Mich.) Concordia men's track & field traveled to Hillsdale for the Wide Track Classic hosted by Hillsdale College this Saturday. In a competition full of NCAA DII and DIII competition, the Cardinals had strong performances and a number of personal bests.

 

Coming in with a series of finals finishes and personal bests was the throws squad. Senior Richard Branch (Detroit, MI) led the way with a personal best throw of 13.24m in the shot put, which was also good for a 2nd place finish. Accompanying Branch was junior Zachary Belinsky (Beulah, MI). Belinsky threw a personal best toss of 12.45m in the shot put and a toss of 12.50m in the weight throw. Rounding out the throws personal records was freshman ToRohn Yancey (Detroit, MI). Yancey threw 9.99m in the weight throw, a new record for him, and 10.92m in the shot put. Sophomore Joshua Wood (Champagne, IL) threw 6.57m in the shot put and 7.58m in the weight throw. Scott Smith (Freshman; Saginaw. MI) also competed in the throws, tossing 10.68m in the shot put and 9.35, in the weight throw. Smith went on to also run 26.09 in the 200m sprint.

 

Joining Smith in the 200m was Kash Warren (Senior; Lorain, OH), Jordan Foy (Freshman; Columbia, SC), Moe Kado (Freshman; Beachwood, OH) and Logan Hay (Freshman; Houston, TX). Warren led the pack, running 24.14 in the 200m. He also went on to run 7.31 in the 60m. Hay, Foy and Kado ran 24.52, 25.15, and 26.50 respectively. Foy and Kado also ran in the 60m dash, running 7.58 and 7.88. Hay also won his heat in the 400m sprint, crossing the finish at 56.17.

 

The distance team raced largely in the 800m and mile at the meet. Freshman Luke Bentz (Fort Wayne, IN) clocked a personal best in the 800m, running 2:07.84. He also ran 4:57.93 in his debut indoor mile. Also running in the 800m were Theodore Eising (Sophomore; Royal Oak, MI), Avery Sanchez (Sophomore; Allen Park, MI) and Noah Finley (Monroe, MI). The trio raced 2:16.80, 2:26.89, and 2:32.18, respectively. Eising debuted in the mile tonight where he ran a 5:04.03. Sanchez wrapped up the mile, running 5:18.08.

 

Wrapping up for the Cardinals was jumpers Zachary Yoder (Senior; Mt. Pleasant, MI) and Ethan Szabados (Junior; Brownstown, MI). Szabados cleared 1.70m and Yoder cleared 1.80m in the high jump.

 

Cardinals track & field resumes competition Friday, February 4, 2022 for the Concordia Red, White and Blue Track Classic hosted at the Lincoln Athletic Building in Ypsilanti. This will be the only home meet for the Cardinals this indoor season. Entrance fee is $5 and can be purchased at the event. For more details, follow the team on social media (CUAAXCTF).
