Men’s Track & Field Earns 2 NCCAA Qualifiers at Season Opener Early Bird Open

(Defiance, OH) - The Men's Track and Field team opened their season at the Early Bird Open hosted by Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio. The team had a limited roster as they competed against Defiance, Trine University, and Anderson University. Despite the small amount competing, the team still had good results. The Men earned 2 NCCAA qualifications and 3 personal bests.

The Men were led by Noah Starkey who won the 200- meter dash and earned an NCCAA qualify mark and a personal record with a time of 23.02. Starkey also finished second in the 60 -meter dash with a time of 7.24.

Zak Schroeder made his collegiate debut in the 200 with a time of 24.81 and earned a 6 -place finish.

On the field event side, Zachary Belinsky earned an NCCAA qualifying mark and personal record with a throw of 13.55 meters. The mark also earned Belinsky a fifth-place finish. Belinsky also earned a 4-place finish in shot put with a throw of 12.03 meters.

Also competing in weight throw was Josh Wood with a throw of 9.88 meters and earned a 7 -place finish. The distance for Wood was a personal record.  Another Cardinal that made his debut was Will Hall in weight throw, earning a 6-place finish with a throw of 10.27 meters.

Schroeder also competed in long jump and earned a second-place finish with a jump of 5.43 meters.

The Cardinals will have a long rest period as they will be off until after the holiday break. They will start their indoor season back up at Tiffin University on Saturday, January 14.
