Men's Track and Field set to compete at NCCAA Championships

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals Men's Track and Field teams head to Cedarville University for the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships this Friday and Saturday. 

 

Noah Starkey, a junior from Macomb, Michigan, qualified for the championship in two different events, which were the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash. Starkey's qualified in the 200-meter dash at the Defiance College Early Bird Opener with a time of 23.02, he has since improved that time with a mark of 22.94 at the SVSU - Doug Hansen Invitational. He has the 11th-best time in the NCCAA. Caleb Campbell from the University of Fort Lauderdale currently sits atop the 200m times with a 22.1. 

 

The 400-meter dash was the latest event Starkey qualified in last weekend at the Mrs. G Invitational. He was able to hit the qualifying mark with a time of 53.18, which was .02 seconds faster than the time needed to qualify. His time currently sits as the 30th-best time in the NCCAA. The top time is 49.03 by Campbell from the University of Fort Lauderdale. 

 

Zachary Belinsky, a senior from Beluah, Michigan, hit the qualifying mark in Weight Throw with a top throw of 13.55m (44' 5.5") at the first meet of the season, the Defiance College Early Bird Opener. Belinsky's throw is the 17th-best throw in the NCCAA currently, while also marking his personal best. The top throw in the NCCAA is from Nate Brown (Greenville University) with a mark of 17.52 meters. 

 

Three Relays will be participating this weekend as well as the Cardinals will have teams in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR), the 4x400m race, and the 4x200 meter race. 

 

Taking part in the Distance Medley will be Luke Bentz, Avery Sanchez, Noah Starkey, and Theodore Eising. The team will be competing in its first DMR of the season. The race has four legs with legs consisting of 1,200m, 400m, 800m, and 1,600m. The top DMR time of the season was 9:57.21 by a team from Grace University. 

 

The 4x200 relay team will see four of the following athletes compete: Elijah Boye, Ethan Dodson, Moe Kado, Zak Schroeder, and Kash Warren. Cedarville University currently holds the top time in the NCCAA with a 1:32.43. 

 

The final race of the champions is the 4x400 as the team will consist of Luke Bentz, Ethan Dodson, Zak Schroeder, and Kash Warren. The 4x400m top time is also held by Cedarville with a time of 3:21.06.
