Women's Outdoor Track & Field takes sixth at WHAC Championships

(Ann Arbor, MI) Concordia women's track & field hosted the outdoor Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championships this past Thursday and Friday. The Cardinals posted a 6th place finish at the Thunder Sports Complex.

 

Top honors included head coach Andrew Tirmenstein being named the women's team Champion of Character coach alongside student-athlete Champion of Character Sarah Mitchell (Sophomore; Monroe, MI).

 

Furthering her own school record, freshman powerhouse Julia Hirt (Hartland, WI) launched the discus 40.32m for a 2nd place finish and personal best throw. Also competing in the women's discus was Quinn Stefanski (Munger, MI) and Alyvia Hock (Manchester, MI), throwing 25.76m and 25.16m, respectively. Stefanski went on to compete in the shot put, throwing 9.40m and the hammer throw, tossing 31.57m.

 

The throws squad continued to see success with senior Hayle Flowers (Waverly, MI) throwing a personal best in the javelin throw with a toss of 31.94m and 4th place finish. Freshman Hailey Stasiukinas (Wyoming, MI) also threw a personal best with a throw of 29.93m. The throw would land her a 7th place finish. The javelin duo would also go on to compete together in the 4x100 relay alongside Hope Renfer (Northville, MI) and Emily Belinsky (Beulah, MI) , running 53.18 for a 7th place finish. Belinsky and Renfer also ran the 200m dash together, running 28.07 and 28.39, respectively. Belinsky wrapped up her events running a 17.39 in the 100m hurdles.

 

Stasiukinas and Sierra Stechebar (Rockford, MI) competed in the jumping events. Stasiukinas jumped 5.45m in the long jump and Stechebar jumped 9.59m in the triple jump. Stechebar also cleared 1.49m in the high jump.

 

On the track, graduate student Gabriela Porter (Quincy, MI) ran a season best in the 3,000m steeplechase, crossing the finish at 12:35.49 for a 2nd place finish. 

 

The 4x800 relay took a 7th place finish and personal best times for Lydia Schroeder (Napoleon, MI), Chloe Gunter (Monroe, MI), Elizabeth Trent (Saginaw, MI) and Madelyn Ankoviak (Sanford, MI), crossing the finish in a time of 11:39.37. Schroeder and Gunter also ran the 1,500m together, running 5:36.15 and 5:48.49, respectively and personal best times for both. Schroeder not only also competed in the 800m, running 2:46.98, but also competed in the 4x400m relay. Schroeder, Gunter, Renfer and Stechebar ran 4:42.85 for an 8th place finish.
