Cardinals host 2nd annual Alumni Legacy Meet; earn multiple spots at NCCAA Championships

(Ann Arbor, MI) Concordia women's track and field hosted the 2nd annual Alumni Legacy Meet at Thunder Sports Complex in Ann Arbor this past weekend. The meet featured ten teams and paid homage to Concordia's graduating seniors and alumni. The Cardinals brought home a new school record, several National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) qualifications and personal best performances. 

 

Freshman Julia Hirt (Hartland, WI) kicked off the two-day meet with a new discus throw school record on Friday night. Hirt threw 39.87m for a new personal best and top conference toss. Fellow discus thrower Alyvia Hock (Junior; Manchester, MI) had a season best toss of 25.90m. Also competing in the discus event was senior Hayle Flowers (Waverly, MI) and freshman Quinn Stefanski (Munger, MI). Flowers saw a throw of 26.32m and Stefanski threw 26.46m with the discus. Flowers would go on to take 4th in the women's javelin with a personal best toss of 31.57m. Stefanski also competed in the shot put, throwing 8.78m and threw a personal best in the hammer throw with a toss of 33.11m. Freshman Hailey Stasiukinas (Wyoming, MI) competed in the javelin throw, throwing 24.81m in finals. Stasiukinas also jumped a personal best in the long jump, jumping 4.57m for a 5th place finish. She continued to see success, running 14.42 in the 100m dash for a personal best time. 

 

Fellow sprinter Emily Belinsky (Senior; Beulah, MI) punched her ticket to NCCAAs with a time of 27.08 in the 200m dash. Junior Hope Renfer (Northville, MI) also saw a personal best, running 27.51 in the same event. Belinsky also competed in the 100m hurdles, running 20.07. Senior Janae Turner (Eastpoint, MI) ran 13.59 in the 100m dash. 

 

Junior Sierra Stechebar (Rockford, MI) competed well in her respective events. Stechebar punched her ticket to NCCAAs in the high jump, clearing 1.51m for a 6th place finish. She also jumped 9.82m in the triple jump for a 3rd place finish. Stechebar, Renfer, Turner and Chloe Gunter (Freshman; Monroe, MI) ran the 4x400 relay together, crossing the finish line in a time of 4:42.87. 

 

Competing in the distance events was a quartet featuring Gunter, Lydia Schroeder (Napoleon, OH), Elizabeth Trent (Saginaw, MI), and Gabriela Porter (Quincy, MI). Porter punched her ticket to NCCAAs in the 1,500m, running 5:09.96. She was joined by the rest of the distance squad in the 1,500m event with Schroeder running 5:44.29, Gunter 5:56.29, and Trent running 6:01.23. Schroeder, Trent and Gunter also ran the 800m, running 2:46.86, 2:48.35, and 2:51.58, respectively.
