Trio of Cardinals earn player of the week honors

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League announced their weekly awards Monday afternoon and Keviontae Brown has been named the offensive player of the week, while Luis Gomez  was named special teams player of the week. Aaron Rahn was also named the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Defensive Player of the Week. All three players played a crucial role in the team's 24-21 win over No. 9 St. Francis, Ind on Saturday.

Brown anchored the Cardinals running game with 117 yards on 23 rushes. Brown scored his first career touchdown to give the Cardinals a 21-0 lead with 4:01 left in the second quarter. Brown's longest run of the day came on a 27 yard which setup the Cardinals first score. Two plays later Dorian Edmond found the endzone on a 10 yard rushing touchdown.

Making his first appearance as a Cardinal, Luis Gomez certainly made it a memorable one. The freshman from Rancho Mirage, CA drilled a 36 yard field field goal with :32 left in regulation to the give the Cardinals a 24-21 lead. Gomez also kicked the Cardinals three extra points to total 6 points on the day.

Aaron Rahn also had a career day for the Cardinals recording 8 tackles. Rahn tied for the team lead with tackles while also securing his first career interception as well. Rahn's interception setup the Cardinals third touchdown. Rahn picked off the USF pass on the 10 yard line with 5:40 left in the second quarter. Two offensive plays later, Brown scored his rushing touchdown giving the Cardinals a 21-0 lead with 4:45 left in the first half.

Since starting the season 3-0 with wins over No. 22 Siena Heights, No. 2 Marian, and No. 9 St. Francis (Ind), several Cardinals have been recognized so far this season. Their individual performances have played a vital to the team's success in these games.

  • Aaron Rahn – NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week (Defensive)

 

The Cardinals will travel to Taylor University for MSFA Mideast divisional game on Saturday, March 20th with kickoff scheduled for 7pm
