Week 4 Game Notes: Football travels to Taylor for a night game

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia football will look to remain undefeated when they travel to Taylor this Saturday for a 7pm kickoff under the lights.  The Cardinals have started the season 3-0 after wins over #22 Siena Heights, #2 Marian, and #9 Saint Francis this past week.  Taylor comes into the contest 1-2, picking up their first win of the season last week with a 45-0 win over Madonna.

The Trojans lead the all-time series 5-4, but Concordia has won the last four matchups by an average margin of victory over 22 points per game.  The Cardinals will look to even the series with a victory this week.

Taylor at a glance

The Trojans enter the contest 1-2 overall on the year.  After falling to #2 Marian and #9 Saint Francis in their first two games, Taylor shut out Madonna 45-0 in their home opener.  The Trojans currently lead the MSFA Mideast Division in rush offense (161.7 YPG) and pass defense (116.3 YPG).  Head coach Ron Korfmacher enters his 13th season.

 

Player of the Week Honors

Keviontae Brown was named MSFA Mideast Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the Cardinals' 24-21 win over #9 Saint Francis last week.  The freshman running back ran for 117 yards on 23 carries in the victory, scoring his first career touchdown to put Concordia up 21-0.

Luis Gomez received MSFA Mideast Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his performance in Concordia's win over Saint Francis.  The freshman kicker hit the game-winning 36-yard field goal in the final minute that put the Cardinals ahead 24-21.  Gomez also went 3-3 kicking PATs in the game.

Aaron Rahn earned NCCAA Defensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts in the Saint Francis win.  The senior linebacker made a career-high 8 tackles in the team's win.  Rahn recorded a critical interception leading to the team's third touchdown while also forcing a fumble.

 

 

NAIA Football Firstdown Playbook Top 25 Poll

The NAIA Football Firstdown Playbook Top 25 poll will remain unchanged until March 22.  As such, the Cardinals still remain ranked #13 in the poll.  MSFA Mideast members Marian (#2), Saint Francis (#9), and Siena Heights (#22) are ranked.  MSFA Midwest members Saint Xavier (#14), Roosevelt (#20) and Olivet Nazarene (#25) have also received rankings.
