Men's Lacrosse loses to #3 St. Ambrose

(Davenport, IA) – Concordia men's lacrosse team concluded their trip in Iowa today with a matchup against the #3 ranked St. Ambrose Fighting Bees. After a tight opening half, the Fighting Bees would ride a strong 3rd quarter to a 10-5 victory over the Cardinals.

Marcus Villagomez led the team with 2 goals. Joseph Cady had 4 shots on goal. Sam Saje and Blake Blaisdell each had a Concordia best 6 ground balls.

 

Sam Bowling played a complete game in net, making 16 saves. SAU opened up the scoring, picking up a pair of goals early in the 1st quarter to take a two-goal lead. The Cardinals cut the lead in half with just 4 seconds remaining in the quarter off a goal by Marcus Villagomez. Travis Wright picked up the assist on the score.

 

Just over 3 minutes into the second frame, Concordia tied it up, as Joseph Cady picked up a goal off a helper by Andrew Simmons. Following two more goals by the Fighting Bees, Joseph Loria took a pass from Blake Blaisdell and fired a shot past the keeper with no time remaining in the half to make the St. Ambrose advantage 4-3 headed into the break.

 

SAU came out quickly in the second quarter, picking up a trio of goals in 3rd quarter and blanking the Cardinals in the frame to carry a 7-3 advantage into the fourth.

 

After two more Fighting Bees scores, CUAA received goals from Andrew Simmons (assisted by Erik Takle-Flach) and Marcus Villagomez in a comeback effort. Concordia would fall short, however, and after a St. Ambrose goal late in the final period, the Cardinals would eventually lose by the final score of 10-5.

 

The Cardinals are back in action on March 26th, when they open WHAC play with their home opener against the Lourdes Gray Wolves. Game time is set for 4:30 at Ferry Field.
