Men's Lacrosse falls in top-10 battle with #6 Cumberlands

(Williamsburg, KY) – Concordia men's lacrosse went on the road to face Cumberlands University for a top-10 matchup to start the year.  The Cardinals entered the contest ranked #6 while the Patriots came in ranked #4.  CUAA looked to mount a comeback in the second half, but Cumberlands held on for a 14-7 win.

Sam Bowling started in goal for Concordia, making 15 saves.  The Patriots jumped out to a quick start with 6 unanswered goals in the first quarter.  Noah Sorenson ended the shutout with a strong individual effort, running through the defense and scoring.  However, the Patriots tacked on two more goals to lead 8-1 at halftime.

Concordia matched Cumberlands in the third quarter as Ryan Iles got on the board and Joseph Cady scored a one-timer off a feed from Blake Blaisdell.  Iles fired a laser in the net to start the fourth quarter and a low goal from Blaisdell cut the deficit to 10-5.

The Patriots answered with three goals, but Concordia continued fighting with a marker from Andrew Simmons and a quick goal from the side by Marcus Villagomez.  However, Cumberlands claimed the 14-7 win as time expired.
