(Williamsburg, KY) – Concordia men's lacrosse went on the road to face Cumberlands University for a top-10 matchup to start the year. The Cardinals entered the contest ranked #6 while the Patriots came in ranked #4. CUAA looked to mount a comeback in the second half, but Cumberlands held on for a 14-7 win.
Sam Bowling started in goal for Concordia, making 15 saves. The Patriots jumped out to a quick start with 6 unanswered goals in the first quarter. Noah Sorenson ended the shutout with a strong individual effort, running through the defense and scoring. However, the Patriots tacked on two more goals to lead 8-1 at halftime.
Concordia matched Cumberlands in the third quarter as Ryan Iles got on the board and Joseph Cady scored a one-timer off a feed from Blake Blaisdell. Iles fired a laser in the net to start the fourth quarter and a low goal from Blaisdell cut the deficit to 10-5.
The Patriots answered with three goals, but Concordia continued fighting with a marker from Andrew Simmons and a quick goal from the side by Marcus Villagomez. However, Cumberlands claimed the 14-7 win as time expired.
Concordia will play their next game on March 8 when they face Tennessee Wesleyan at Thomas More University. Game time is 5:30pm.
