Men's Soccer flies past Ohio Christian 7-1 in season opener

[Ann Arbor, MI] — Concordia opened up their season at home with a matchup against the Ohio Christian Trailblazers. The team began their season with a 7-1 win over the Trailblazers. Bryce Schaner scored twice in the victory, while five other Cardinals scored in the home opener.

 

The first half set the tone for Concordia in their statement win, as the Cardinals played tremendous defense and shut out the Trailblazers in both shots and goals. Meanwhile, Clemens Gehlich scored off a corner kick that was served to him by Alexander Valencia within the first 15 minutes of the half. Concordia finished out the half with two more goals from Lucas Anderson and Bryce Schaner.

 

The second half featured more of the same for the defense of the Cardinals, which allowed just 4 shots in the frame. Schaner added his second goal of the game and Job Munongo (assisted by Carter Kerbawy), Ignacio Lopez (assisted by Chandler Wilson), and Elijah Macke all added to the lead. The Trailblazers added one goal onto their side of the scoreboard on a penalty kick from Junior Acosta with under 15 minutes to go in the game.

 

Kyri Wixom (1-0) had a light day in goal as he allowed just one goal and only had to make one save. Madior Mbaye (0-1) allowed all 7 goals and saved 10 shots throughout the game. 

 

Concordia will play their next game on August 30th at 6:00 PM against Saint Francis Indiana. The game will be played at the Bishop John M. Darcy Stadium in Fort Wayne, IN.
