Men's Soccer draws 3-3 with Cleary

(Ann Arbor, MI) Concordia Men's Soccer remained at home for a conference matchup against Cleary Wednesday afternoon. Concordia found themselves up 2-0 after 48 minutes of play, but gave up a pair of goals after playing with 10 men for the final 25 minutes due to a pair of yellow cards. The Cardinals were able to take the lead back, but suffered a Cleary equalizer with four minutes remaining, forcing the game to end in a 3-3 draw.

Fifteen minutes into the game Job Munongo found his way to a ball popped up by Tim Relou just inside the 18-yard box, to volley it over the Cleary keeper for the first goal of the match. The Cardinals continued to have good looks, but failed to convert any more chances in the first half. Some of Concordia's best chances came when Job Munongo had a shot go just high, Marcello Pinterpe shot wide left, and Carter Kerbawy's header went just over the crossbar. Kyri Wixom had a diving stop to deny Cleary's best attempt of the half and keep it at 1-0. In the final three minutes, Evan Lock had a pair of headers, both coming off of corners, but neither found the back of the net.

The Cardinals added to their lead three minutes into the half when Kyri Wixom sent a free kick from the other side of midfield to Clemens Gehlich who headed it off of the Cleary keeper and in. Carter Kerbawy nearly curled one into the far side netting shortly after. Not long after that, Cleary's Lesman Morazan snuck a free kick past Kyri Wixom on the near post to cut into the Cardinals' advantage. With 25 minutes remaining, Tim Relou picked up his second yellow card of the game, forcing the Cardinals to play a man down for the final 25 minutes. Cleary took advantage with a goal not long after when Lesman Morazan found Thomas Kanouna for the equalizer. The ensuing action saw Cleary narrowly miss several opportunities to take the lead, until with 12 minutes left in the match, Carter Kerbawy flipped the ball to himself before burying it in the back of the net with his left boot, giving Concordia the lead back. Then with four minutes remaining Cleary pulled back even again as they scored a goal with a Concordia man down, to conclude the game at 3-3.

Next up for the Cardinals will be a matchup at (RV) Lawrence Tech on Saturday, October 7th. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM in Southfield, MI.
