Men's Soccer draws 1-1 with Michigan-Dearborn at home

(Ann Arbor, MI) Concordia Men's Soccer hosted Michigan-Dearborn at Ferry Field in Ann Arbor on Friday October 13th at 2:00 p.m. and were unable to get the win with a 1-1 draw. Both teams went scoreless in the first half, however they both scored one goal in the second half. With the draw, it puts the Cardinals at 1-9-4 record and 0-4-3 in conference play for the season.

Concordia tried to get things going early on in the 3rd minute but it was an offsides call that halted that opportunity. Then in the 6th minute and 8th minute it was back-to-back corner kicks by both teams, the first one coming from Concordia and the second from Dearborn. Those Corner kicks were taken from Carter Kerbawy from Concordia and Nicolas Pulcini from Dearborn. The first shot on goal came from Clemons Gehlich in the 14th minute but was unable to get it past Dearborn's goalkeeper in Elijah Burlak. Concordia was able to get two more shots on goal in the 20th minute and the 41st minute both by Carter Kerbawy but weren't able to convert on both of them. Besides those three shots Concordia had some other chances, as they had possessions in Dearborn's territory but couldn't get more shots up. However, the best chance for a goal came from Michigan Dearborn in the 43rd minute with a penalty kick and it was their only shot on goal for the first half. Nicolas Pulcini took the shot and put it on the right side, however Kyri Wixom guessed right and was able to make an incredible save on that shot. With that both teams went into halftime with a score of 0-0.

As the second half began Concordia came out swinging with three back-to-back shots on goal that came in the 48th minute, and 49th minute. Those shots came from Carter Kerbawy again who had two of them and the other from Jan Lloveras Freix. It just seemed like it was inevitable for Concordia to get on the board first and they finally did in the 54th minute with Ignacio Lopez finally getting one past Elijah Burlak for the goal. It all started when Franklin Swanson served a ball up into the box which went off the keeper and found its way to Lopez for the finish. With that goal Concordia took the lead 1-0. After the quiet first half from Michigan-Dearborn they were able to respond right away in the 57th minute with a goal of their own made by Xavier Walser after a great setup by Andrew Schwartz. With that goal things were all squared up again at 1-1. After those two quick goals from both teams, there were other opportunities that each team had to break the tie but neither could convert. Two yellow cards were given to Ignacio Garcia from Concordia and Hassan Jaber from Michigan-Dearborn later in the game. Towards the end of the game both teams tried to make their final push to break the tie with both teams getting opportunities however they just weren't able to convert.

Concordia had 14 total shots, 15 fouls, seven corner kicks, one total save and three yellow cards. For those six shots, only seven of them were shots on goal and they were by Carter Kerbawy who had three of them, Ignacio Lopez who had 2 of them, and Clemons Gehlich and Franklin Swanson each had one shot each. The one goal game from Ignacio Lopez. Kyri Wixom had one save and allowed one goal with only two shots on goal.
