Men's Soccer downed by Madonna at home

(Ann Arbor, MI) Concordia Men's Soccer hosted the Madonna Crusaders Wednesday afternoon for a WHAC matchup. Madonna came out strong with two goals in the first half and ultimately won 3-0. Kyri Wixom started in goal and tallied 12 saves for Concordia.

Madonna was on the offensive early and often, getting four corners within the first ten minutes. It wasn't until 20 minutes remained in the half when Madonna was able to strike off of the counterattack and draw first blood when Daniel Watkins scored. Madonna had several chances quickly after that which were stopped by fantastic saves from Kyri Wixom and even Jan Lloveras Freix making a play at the line. Concordia's best chance of the first half came when Jan Lloveras Freix intercepted a pass and then linked up with Carter Kerbawy, who beat the Madonna keeper, but hit the crossbar. Madonna was able to tack on a second goal before the end of the half when a deflection bounced the ball past an already committed Wixom.

Andres Gomez had a shot for Madonna that rattled the woodwork early on, but did not score. Concordia then had a few opportunities with crosses served into the box, but no one was there to capitalize. Madonna continued to pressure the Cardinals with opportunities off of corner kicks, but it was Ryota Nakajima who worked his way down the right flank and found Ryushin Hirami for Madonna's third and final goal.

Next up for the Cardinals will be another home WHAC match against UM-Dearborn on Friday, October 13th. Kickoff is set for 2:00 pm at Ferry Field on Cardinal Stadium.
