Men’s Track Gets Off to Solid Start at Bill Bippes Invitational

(Spring Arbor, MI) - The Men's Track and Field team started their season off strong with multiple top 5 finishes, 3 personal records, 2 NCCAA qualification marks, and multiple new collegiate marks.

 

The sprinters were led by Kash Warren (Lorain, OH) and Noah Starkey (Macomb, MI). As Warren finished in second place in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.11 and earned him an NCCAA qualifying mark. Starkey finished in fifth place with a time of 11.33. Freshman Andrew Kozlowski made his outdoor sprinting debut in the 100 with a time of 12.89.

 

In the 200 meters, Starkey and Warren finished in third and fourth place. Starkey ran a new personal record of 22.74 and Warren finished at 22.91. Sophomore Maurice Kado (Beachwood, OH) wrapped up the sprinting side of things with a personal record of 24.30.

 

In throwing events, freshman William Hall (Indianapolis, IN) led the way by earning three new collegiate marks and an NCCAA qualifying mark. Hall earned his qualifying mark in discus with a distance of 39.77 meters. He then earned a new collegiate mark in the hammer with a distance of 27.99 meters. Hall finished his day with a new mark in javelin with a throw of 28.32 meters.

 

Also competing in throwing events was Scott Smith (Saginaw, MI) who won the javelin with a distance of 41.24 meters. Smith also competed in the shot put and threw a distance of 11.62 meters.

 

Senior Zachary Belinsky (Beulah, MI)  also competed in the shot put and threw a distance of 11.42 meters. Belinsky also competed in discus and hammer throw. Belinsky threw 31.15 meters in discus and a throw of 36.40 meters in the hammer.

 

Sophomore Mason Wyllis (Holt, MI) and senior Michael Brannan (Dearborn Heights, MI) finished up the throwing events by competing in the javelin. Wyllis finished in fourth place with a distance of 34.61. Brannan finished in eighth place with a distance of 32.08 meters.

 

In other field events, Kado and freshman Ethan Dodson (Rochester Hills, MI) competed in the long jump. Dodson finished in sixth place with a distance of 5.63 meters, while Kado finished in seventh place with a jump of 5.46 meters.

 

In distance running events, sophomore Luke Bentz (Fort Wayne, IN) finished in third place in the 800 with a time of 2:02 and a new personal record. Brannan also competed in the 800 and finished in 2:14. Jared Stiver made his outdoor collegiate debut in the 800 and earned a new mark of 2:34.

 

Freshman Adam Fisch (Caro, MI) made his debut in 5k and finished in a time of 18:26. Senior Avery Sanchez (Allen Park, MI) competed in the steeplechase to open up running events on the day. Sanchez finished at 11:37.

 

The team will compete next on Saturday, April 8 at Oakland University for the Golden Grizzly Invite.
