Men's Track & Field sees success at Mike Becraft Invitational

(Ada, OH) - The men's track and field team saw multiple top 5 finishes and 2 school records fall on Saturday, April 22 at the Mike Bencraft Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University. The team also had 7 personal records on the day as well.

The day was highlighted in sprinting events, where the 4x100 meter relay team of Noah Starkey (Junior; Macomb, MI)  Kash Warren (Senior; Lorain, OH), Maurice Kado (Sophomore; Beachwood, OH), and Ethan Dodson (Freshman; Rochester Hills, MI)  won the race with a time of 42.98 seconds.

Warren continued that momentum into the 100 and 200-meter dash, where he would rebreak his records from last week. Warren finished in third place with a time of 10.86 seconds in the 100 and finished in second place in the 200 with a time of 22.03.

Starkey and Kado also competed in the 200, as Starkey finished in 6th place and Kado in 20th place. They finished at 22.62 and 24.14. Starkey also competed in the 400 meter dash with a 54.27. 

While In the 100, Kado finished in 11.94 for 11th place. While Dodson finished in 14th with a time of 11.94. Freshman Andrew Kozlowski finished in a time of 13.50 seconds.

In the 1500 meter, the team saw 3 new personal records, as Luke Bentz (Sophomore; Fort Wayne, IN), Avery Sanchez (Senior; Allen Park, MI), and Adam Fisch (Freshman; Caro, MI) all made improvements. Bentz led the group with a 4:16 finishing time; followed by Sanchez at 4:34 and Fisch at 4:44.

Bentz and Fisch turned around to run the 800 meters, with Mike Brannan (Senior; Dearborn Heights, MI) joining in as well. Bentz once again led the group with a 2:04; followed by Brannan returning from injury to run a 2:18 and Fisch in 2:24. Sanchez made his second attempt at the 400 hurdles and finished with a 1:07.

In field events, Scott Smith (Sophomore; Saginaw, MI) led the way with a 3rd place finish in the javelin with a throw of 36.70 meters. Also competing in the javelin were Brannan and Will Hall (Freshman; Indianapolis, Indiana). Brannan finished in 8th place with a throw of 32.95 meters and Hall finished in 15th place with a throw of 26.62 meters.

Hall competed with Zachary Belinsky (Senior; Beulah, MI) in the hammer throw. Belinsky finished in 11th place by throwing a distance of 41.25 meters. While Hall finished in 14th place with a throw of 39.30 meters. The order would be reversed for discus, as Hall finished in 17th place and Belinsky finished in 28th place. Hall finished with a throw of 36.47 meters and Belinsky had a throw of 30.22 meters.

Belinsky finished up the throwing events by throwing the shot put on Saturday. He finished in 21st place with a throw of 11.96 meters.

The team will be back in action on Saturday, April 29 for their home meet, the CUAA Alumni Legacy meet.
