SEASON PREVIEW: Women's Basketball sets sights on WHAC Championship

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball has been preparing to begin their 2021-22 campaign.  The Cardinals finished 16-10 overall last year, making a run to the WHAC championship and earning 3rd place at the NCCAA National Tournament.  4th-year head coach Kiefer Haffey brings back 10 returning players while adding 8 talented recruits to the roster.

2020-21 Season Review

Concordia finished with a 16-10 overall record and a 7-4 mark in WHAC conference play.  The Cardinals went 3-1 in the fall before the pandemic delayed the remainder of the season to the winter.  Concordia racked up multiple 5-game winning streaks once play resumed, earning the #4 seed in the WHAC tournament and the right to host a first-round game.

Concordia downed #5 seed Lawrence Tech and #8 seed Lourdes to earn a berth in the WHAC tournament finals.  While the team narrowly lost to Indiana Tech 65-59, the Cardinals earned a spot in the NCCAA National Tournament and came in third place overall.

2021-22 Schedule Outlook

Concordia opens their season with a home contest against Spring Arbor on October 28 at 7pm.  The Cardinals will host Indiana South Bend on October 30 to conclude the month.

On November 1, the Cardinals will travel to NCAA Division I Eastern Michigan for an exhibition contest.  Concordia will compete in the Rio Grande Classic from November 5-6 against WVU Tech and the host school Rio Grande.  After beginning WHAC play at Lawrence Tech, the team concludes the month with a 3-game homestand versus Indiana Tech, rival Siena Heights and Cornerstone.

December begins with a 4-game road trip at Madonna, Aquinas, UM-Dearborn and Marian.  After the Christmas holiday, the team will host Miami-Hamilton and Great Lakes Christian from December 29-30 just before the new year.

The 2022 calendar year starts with a non-conference home contest against Midway on January 2.  Concordia will return to WHAC play at UNOH and then play host to Rochester.  After road contests at Lourdes and Indiana Tech, the Cardinals will host Lawrence Tech and Madonna.  Following a road game at Cornerstone, the team will participate in the Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT) from January 28-29 on the campus of Concordia Nebraska.

February starts with a rivalry game at Siena Heights.  The Cardinals will host Aquinas and Lourdes before traveling to Rochester.  Concordia concludes the regular season with home contests against UNOH and UM-Dearborn.
