Women's Basketball earns 71-64 victory over Lawrence Tech

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball returned home to host Lawrence Tech on Wednesday evening for a WHAC matchup.  The Cardinals entered 9-9 overall (6-4 WHAC) while the Blue Devils came into the game 10-11 (6-5 WHAC).  The contest was tied at halftime, but CUAA pulled ahead in the second half for a 71-64 win.

Taylor Leatherman led Concordia with a career high 16 points.  Alize Tripp made it her seventh straight game in double figures with 13 points.  Keirslynn Lawless came in third with 11 points.  Asaria Turman and Samantha Dorn were also in double figures with 10 points each.  Keirslynn Lawless and Taylor Leatherman tied for a team-high 8 rebounds, which was a career high for Lawless.

 

Taylor Leatherman opened scoring with a layup.  Keirslynn Lawless and Alize Tripp drove for baskets as the lead changed hands early on.  After an 8-0 run from Lawrence Tech, the Cardinals responded with a 3-pointer from Alize Tripp and a layup by Samantha Dorn.  CUAA trailed 14-11 after the first quarter.

Concordia continued their run in the second quarter when Samantha Dorn tied the game with a triple and Asaria Turman scored a go-ahead layup.  Julia Hirt tacked on a 3-pointer as well, but Lawrence Tech rallied to reclaim the lead.  A triple from Ellie Kallner put the Cardinals back on top, but the contest would be tied 27-27 at halftime.

 

Keirslynn Lawless scored inside to open the third quarter and put Concordia ahead.  Asaria Turman scored in the paint and Taylor Leatherman drove for a layup.  Alize Tripp drained two free throws and Turman added a wide-open layup.  A late triple and drive by Tripp put CUAA ahead 43-38 after the third quarter.

Keirslynn Lawless opened the fourth quarter with a layup.  Taylor Leatherman began to explode in the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer and two free throws.  Asaria Turman added some inside baskets and Ellie Kallner later knocked down her second triple.  Free throws from Samantha Dorn and Taylor Leatherman along with another basket from Keirslynn Lawless kept CUAA ahead for the 71-64 win.

 

Concordia will remain at home this Saturday, January 22 to host rival Madonna at 1pm.
