Women's Basketball falls at Siena Heights

(Adrian, MI) – Concordia women's basketball went on the road to face rival Siena Heights on Monday evening.  The teams came in with 11 WHAC wins apiece and tied for third place in the conference.  CUAA kept the game close through early in the second quarter, but Siena Heights pulled away to claim a 76-57 win.

Keirslynn Lawless led the Cardinals with 10 points and 9 rebounds.  Zaria Mitchner finished second with 9 points.  Alize Tripp and Julia Hirt tied for third with 8 points each.

 

Keirslynn Lawless went to work inside and scored the first basket.  Izzy Viau knocked down a midrange jumper and Asaria Turman scored in the paint.  Alize Tripp made a drive to the basket and Julia Hirt drained a 3-pointer from the corner.  CUAA trailed 13-11 after the first quarter.

Keirslynn Lawless scored inside to start the second quarter.  Alize Tripp banked in a go-ahead layup and Taylor Leatherman made a pair of baskets including an acrobatic scoop shot.  However, the Saints responded with an 18-0 run to surge ahead in the game.  Zaria Mitchner ended the run with a layup and added a 3-pointer, but CUAA trailed 40-24 at halftime.

 

Keirslynn Lawless spun in the paint and converted and "and-1" to open the third quarter.  Taylor Leatherman drove for a layup and both Asaria Turman and Ellie Kallner scored as well.  Kallner and Keirslynn Lawless drained triples later in the quarter, but Siena Heights led 61-44 after the third.

Julia Hirt had a layup to start the fourth quarter.  Zaria Mitchner made two free throws and a layup as the Cardinals still tried to mount a comeback.  Alize Tripp added two free throws and scored in the final seconds, but CUAA fell 76-57.

 

Concordia will return home to host Lourdes this Wednesday, February 9 at 5:30pm.
