Cardinals make it five straight with 96-56 win over Grace Christian

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball hosted Grace Christian for a non-conference game on Friday night.  The Cardinals looked to pick up a win in the contest which was added due to the cancelation of CIT.  14 different players found the scoresheet as CUAA cruised to a 96-56 victory.

Asaria Turman had her first double-double of the season with a team-high 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Alize Tripp finished second with 13 points.  Taylor Leatherman was third with 9 points. The Cardinals gave up a season low 10 turnovers in the second time this season they have breached the 90-point mark.

 

Keirslynn Lawless opened scoring with a shot off the high glass.  After the Tigers answered with a 7-0 run, Izzy Viau converted an "and-1".  Asaria Turman and Mackenzie Howe scored inside and two free throws from Howe gave the Cardinals a 12-11 lead.  Julia Hirt nailed a 3-pointer and Keirslynn Lawless scored inside as the game remained close.  Alize Drive made a late drive and a buzzer-beating steal and score from Taylor Leatherman put CUAA up 22-17.

Asaria Turman scored in the paint for Concordia's first second-quarter basket.  Mackenzie Howe added a basket and two free throws and Alize Tripp scored on a drive to the hoop.  Samantha Dorn drilled a triple and Emily McCalla added free throws as the Cardinals continued to pull away.  Asaria Turman made two more layups and Monae Palmer chipped in a free throw, capping a 16-2 run.  CUAA led 40-23 at halftime.

 

Keirslynn Lawless started the third quarter with a free throw.  Izzy Viau and Alize Tripp added layups and both Taylor Leatherman and Tripp drilled triples.  Julia Hirt made two free throws and Ellie Kallner knocked down a 3-pointer.  Monae Palmer had two free throws and both Asaria Turman and Alize Tripp extended the lead with layups down the stretch.  Emily McCalla and Izzy Viau made free throws for a 69-45 lead after the third quarter.

Asaria Turman powered inside for a basket to start the fourth quarter.  Taylor Leatherman drove for a pair of layups and Monae Palmer made her first career Cardinal field goal on a successful "and-1".  Zaria Mitchner chipped in 8 points in the quarter and Stephanie Abraham made two layups in her return to action.  A layup from Mackenzie Maciejewski closed out the scoring in a 96-56 CUAA win.

 

Concordia will head on the road on Wednesday, February 2 when they travel to rival Siena Heights at 6pm.
