Women's Basketball Downs UM-Dearborn 74-54

(Dearborn, MI) – Concordia women's basketball faced off against UM-Dearborn at Henry Ford College on Saturday afternoon.  The Cardinals came into the game 5-5 overall (4-3 WHAC) while UM-Dearborn entered 2-11 (1-5 WHAC).  CUAA turned in a dominant first quarter and cruised to a 74-54 victory.

Samantha Dorn had a team-high 8 rebounds while tying Julia Hirt for the team lead with 12 points apiece.  Asaria Turman finished with 11 points.  Stephanie Abraham was also in double figures with 10 points.

 

Keirslynn Lawless opened scoring in the game with a layup.  Zaria Mitchner added an early layup as the game was close early on.  UM-Dearborn briefly pulled ahead but Samantha Dorn regained the lead with a triple.  Julia Hirt added a 3-pointer as well and both Asaria Turman and Stephanie Abraham converted inside.  After a triple from Hirt, two layups from Keirslynn Lawless, and a layup from Taylor Leatherman CUAA led 28-10 after the first quarter.

Asaria Turman opened the second quarter with three baskets inside.  Stephanie Abraham and Samantha Dorn added layups as the Cardinals stretched their advantage to 38-19.  UM-Dearborn used a 9-0 run to close to within 10 points, but a free throw from Asaria Turman ended the run and Samantha Dorn added 3 free throws after getting fouled shooting a triple.  CUAA led 42-28 at halftime.

 

Zaria Mitchner opened the third quarter with a layup.  Ellie Kallner added two free throws and Keirslynn Lawless scored inside.  Samantha Dorn and Julia Hirt drove to the basket and Hirt later drained a 3-pointer.  CUAA held a 56-42 lead after the third quarter.

Zaria Mitcher started the fourth quarter with a basket.  Samantha Dorn hit a jumper and Taylor Leatherman converted an old-fashioned three-point play.  Stephanie Abraham and Zaria Mitchner added triples as the Cardinals continued to stay ahead.  Ellie Kallner and McKenna Dietsch had baskets in the final minutes and CUAA claimed the 74-54 win.

 

Concordia will play their next game on Saturday, December 18 when they host Marian at 5:00pm.
