SEASON PREVIEW: Women’s Golf begins season on the road at IU East Fall Invitational

[Ann Arbor, MI] — The Concordia Cardinals Women's Golf team will open up their fall season traveling to the Indiana University East Fall Invitational on September 1-2 before making the trip to the Lourdes University Tournament on September 7. They will host one match throughout the fall season.

Head coach Kelly Kristy will enter her second season with the team and will look to guide the team to new heights.

"We've added players to the rosters on both the mens and womens teams and I'm looking forward to testing our abilities this season," stated coach Kristy when discussing the excitement level of where both the men's and women's teams could end up this season.

Coach Kristy also expressed confidence in the women's team and the closeness that this team shares, saying, "For the ladies, we've become a more cohesive team and have some really exciting events to look forward to. I believe both teams are going to exceed expectations this year!"

Returning Players

Concordia is bringing back all of their players from the previous season. Elle Fritcha and Rachel Costello (both Sr) lead the pack of returning Cardinals. Concordia is also bringing back three juniors, who are Lilly Alaspa, Amelia Black, and Rachel Yuhas. The only under-class member of the team is Callie Wabeke, who is a sophomore this season.

Wabeke had a very good start to her Cardinal career last year where she averaged 94.65 over 17 rounds and had a low one round score of 84. Wabeke will look to continue her strong career this season as she enters her second full year. The three juniors also had strong seasons last year, as Alaspa, Black, and Yuhas all lowered their average scores from their freshman to sophomore seasons by at least 5 strokes and will look to further improve this upcoming season.

Team Season Highlights

While no one broke into the top spot in the school's record books, Rachel Yuhas cracked the top-10 regarding season low one round scores and low two round scores and she broke into the top-5 regarding season low three round scores. Callie Wabeke also worked her way into the top-10 regarding season low two round scores and rounds out the top-5 regarding season low three round scores.

The team itself broke into the number one spot with two records this past season. The season low two round team score (785) and the season low three round team score (1105) were set this past season in convincing fashion. The team will look to make even more highlights in the 2023-24 season.
