Women's Hockey sweeps Davenport with 8-1 road win

(Grand Rapids, MI) Concordia Women's Hockey returned to the ice for an away match at Davenport following their 8-3 win at home over the Panthers. The Cardinals completed the sweep on Saturday night, overtaking Davenport 8-1, in large part thanks to Makayla Steinmetz's second hat trick in as many days. Alana Mortimer was between the pipes for the Cardinals and saved 10 shots throughout the game. Makayla Steinmetz led the Cardinals with her second hat trick of the weekend, followed by Julie McLaughlin with her second game in a row with a pair of goals. Julie McLaughlin drew first blood for the Cardinals around halfway through the first period. Davenport scored six seconds into their first power play of the game moments later before the Cardinal defense would shut them out for the remainder of the game. In the second period, Makayla Steinmetz netted back-to-back power play goals to give the Cards the lead. Grace Dodgson added another goal to the Cardinal advantage so Concordia could go into the second intermission up three. The Cardinal offense tacked on four goals in the third as Skylar Croft, Julie McLaughlin, Makayla Steinmetz, and Emma Shore all found the back of the net. Next up for the Cardinals is their Senior Night and last home game of the season against Aquinas on Saturday, February 11th. Puck drop is set for 8:00 PM in Chelsea.
