Women's Hockey ties Aquinas in final home game of season

(Chelsea, MI) Concordia Women's Hockey took to the Arctic Coliseum for one last time in the 2022-23 season, also celebrating their senior day. The Cardinals took on Aquinas and ultimately tied with the Saints in a closely contested matchup.

Makayla Steinmetz led the Cardinals with two goals and an assist. Alana Mortimer started between the pipes for CUAA and recorded 30 saves.

The Cardinals drew first blood by way of a power play goal from Makayla Steinmetz halfway through the first period. Around five minutes later the Saints evened things up to make it 1-1 after the first.

The second period was action packed with seven total penalties and both teams scoring two more goals each. Dakota Harmon got things started with a goal less than half a minute into the period. Later in the period Harmon committed a major penalty, but the Cardinals were able to score shorthanded goal shortly after. Makayla Steinmetz netted her second goal of the night on an unassisted, breakaway goal. The Saints responded with a power play goal less than a half minute later and then evened things up later, making it 3-3 with one period remaining.

In contrast, the third period saw no goals from either side, which forced the game into overtime.

In overtime, Grace Dodgson had a shot on goal that popped up and over the goaltender, but trailed just wide of the net. Both defenses held firm for the remainder of the period, resulting in a tie between the two sides.
