Concordia sweeps Lakers to improve to 6-2 on the season

(Fairborn, OH) For the Cardinals' second weekend of the 2020 season, Concordia traveled south to face the Lakers of Wright State-Lake. The "Diamond Cards" completed a clean sweep of the Lakers, winning all four of the games between Saturday and Sunday by an average margin of five runs.

Game 3 | Sunday February 23rd, 1:00 PM

Concordia 6 - Wright State-Lake 3

  • Six different Cardinal pitchers toed the rubber in game three of the series. Joey Stasa began the game on the mound, but was replaced in the first inning by Jacob Henry who would be awarded the win. Kane Bourbina closed out the game as he got the final two outs of the game and the save.
  • Preston Sherman drove in a run in the second which was followed by Victor Diaz's two run jack to put the Cardinals up by three.
  • Diaz picked up his third RBI of the game when he singled in the fourth. Vann Acker doubled later that inning to bring home another, and Acker himself scored for Concordia's third run in the fourth inning.
  • Two of the Lakers' runs came in the sixth off of an error, but proved to be not enough as the Cardinals held on for a three run win.

Game 4 | Sunday February 23rd, 3:00 PM

Concordia 7 - Wright State-Lake 0

  • Timothy Pomaville hurled five innings of scoreless baseball in the final game of the series. The sophomore only allowed six baserunners and tallied five strikeouts in the win.
  • The Cardinal offense provided steady run support for Pomaville throughout the game starting with Steinborn's single in the first inning. Steinborn brought home another with a single in the fifth.
  • Jordan Sherman and Dylan Steinke both plated two runs, each driving in one in the fifth and the seventh for the Cards.
  • Alex Phillips and Tyson Kleinfelter came in to finish the game and both pitched perfect, three-up-three-down innings to slam the door shut on the Lakers.

Next weekend the Cardinals will return to Ohio for another four game series on Saturday and Sunday. Concordia will face Shawnee State at 1:00 PM both days.
