(Ann Arbor, MI) The Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) and National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced their weekly player of the week recipients on Monday afternoon and three different Cardinals earned various Player of the Week honors. Andrew Foerster was named MSFA Defensive Player of the Week, Casey Rauch was dubbed NCCAA Defensive/Special Teams Student Athlete of the Week, and Gavin Brooks was given both MSFA and NCCAA Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Captain Andrew Foerster won MSFA Player of the Week honors after anchoring the Cardinal defensive line in the Cardinal's season opening win. Foerster got off to a quick start in his senior campaign with six tackles, two of them being solo. The defensive end tallied 2 tackles for loss as well as a sack and a pass break up in the matchup against Saint Ambrose.
Sophomore Casey Rauch was named NCCAA Defensive/Special Teams Student Athlete of the Week after not only leading the team in tackles, but also punting for 48.1 yards per kick. The linebacker/punter accumulated 3 tackles for loss and a half sack on the defensive side of the things. As a punter, Rauch put the ball inside the 20 yard line 4 times with his longest kick being 74 yards.
Gavin Brooks impressed in his first start under center for the Dirty Birds, accounting for four touchdowns, earning him both MSFA and NCCAA Offensive Player of the Week. The Livonia native connected with three different receivers for touchdowns against the Bees' defense along with a rushing touchdown. Brooks totaled 267 passing yards and 34 rushing yards on Saturday.
The Cardinals will be at home this Saturday where they will have a tilt with the 16th ranked Lakers from Roosevelt University. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM at Cardinal Stadium.
