Men's Basketball Earns 88-69 Win Over UM-Dearborn

(Dearborn, MI) – Concordia men's basketball squared off against UM-Dearborn at Henry Ford College on Saturday afternoon in a WHAC conference matchup.  The Cardinals came in 4-7 overall while the Wolverines entered 1-8.  CUAA shot 53.2% from the field and claimed an 88-69 victory.

Thomas Hronis led all scorers with 31 points, going 9-17 from behind the arc.  Colton Ritsema finished second with 16 points.  Bernard Kasanda finished third with 13 points.  Matt Lockhart was also in double figures with 11 points.  Devyn Jones had a team-high 7 rebounds while adding 7 points.

 

Bernard Kasanda ended a 5-0 UMD run with a jumper.  Thomas Hronis nailed a jump shot and two triples as the Cardinals looked to fight back from an early deficit.  Colton Ritsema made a pair of baskets inside but CUAA trailed 21-14 at the 11:43 mark.

Thomas Hronis knocked down three straight 3-pointers to tie the game 23-23.  UM-Dearborn reclaimed the lead but Devyn Jones notched a free throw and a layup to keep pace.  Matt Lockhart made a triple and Thomas Hronis hit a go-ahead 3-pointer at the 3:39 mark.  A Bernard Kasanda layup with 23 seconds to go put CUAA ahead 40-38 at halftime.

 

Bernard Kasanda made a triple-to-open scoring in the second half.  Colton Ritsema added a layup and Thomas Hronis knocked down a jump shot as the contest remained close.  Zackary Johnson hit a 3-pointer and Bernard Kasanda chipped in two free throws.

Thomas Hronis drained two more 3-pointers and a layup from Matt Lockhart gave the Cardinals their first double-digit lead with a 64-54 advantage.  Matt Kohler drained a triple as well and Kip French added two free throws.

Thomas Hronis continued to convert from behind the arc and Colton Ritsema scored inside.  CUAA was able to secure the 88-69 win as time expired.

 

Concordia will return home on Saturday, December 18 to host Eureka College at 7 pm.
