Men's Basketball claims 100-69 victory over Eureka

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia men's basketball faced off against Eureka College on Saturday evening to finish their last game before Christmas break.  The Cardinals looked to bring home one more win before taking a much deserved break.  CUAA performed well on offense and passed the century mark with a 100-69 win. The 100 points was a season high and the 31 point margin was the largest of the season as well.

Devyn Jones led the Cardinals with a career high 22 points.  Thomas Hronis finished second with 13 points.  Matt Lockhart finished third with 11 points and a career high 5 steals while tying Devyn Jones for a team-high 7 rebounds. Matt Kohler scored a season high 9 points as well.

 

Thomas Hronis started a 10-0 run with a 3-pointer, adding two more free throws after a technical foul on the Eureka bench.  Bernard Kasanda added a layup and Hronis capped the run with another triple.  Devyn Jones added a layup and Kasanda hit a 3-pointer for a 16-7 lead.

Zackary Johnson drove for a layup and added two free throws as the Cardinals continued to score.  Zac Clark made two layups and both Devyn Jones and Matt Lockhart got on the scoresheet with baskets.  After a possession with five offensive rebounds, Devyn Jones finished a layup for a 30-13 lead.

Kip French scored his first basket and Matt Kohler knocked down a jumper and a 3-pointer late in the half.  Colton Ritsema drained a triple and D'Angelo Stoxstill nailed a jumpshot.  Zackary Johnson closed the half with a 3-pointer and CUAA led 53-23 at halftime.

 

Bernard Kasanda started the second half with a jumper.  Colton Ritsema and Thomas Hronis added baskets and Matt Lockhart chipped in a layup and a 3-pointer for a 64-31 lead.  Devyn Jones threw down a dunk after a steal as Concordia continued to stay ahead.

Devyn Jones continued to pace the offense with 11 straight CUAA points later in the half including two triples.  Kip French and Matt Kohler hit jumpshots and Thomas Hronis drilled a triple for an 87-57 advantage.

Mason Canfield checked into the game later on and hit a 3-pointer.  Evan Neff made a layup and a triple and Abeal Ayalew knocked down a 3-pointer.  Nate Brighton scored inside to get the Cardinals to 100 points and CUAA secured a 100-69 win as time expired.

 

Concordia will return home on Wednesday, December 29 when they host Alma at 7:30pm.
