SEASON PREVIEW: Women's Bowling opens up season at Rochester Classic

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals Women's Bowling team will open up a new season when they travel to the Rochester Classic on Saturday. The Cardinals are set for another season of competition in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference as they will look for their first WHAC Regular Season Championship since the 2014-15 season. 

 

Returning Players

The Cardinals will see the return of 10 different Cardinals as Gabriella VanHorn, Shannon Geiger, Emilee Hughes, Alyvia Hock, Isabell Cooley, Amanda Fisher, Emily Morris, Arielle Oakley, Kara Ward, and Karissa Chibbaro will see the lanes this season.

 

The top three bowlers on the team last season were Gabriella VanHorn, Shannon Geiger, and Emilee Hughes and they will aim to continue last year's success this season. VanHorn totaled a 180.8 pin average, and at the Scotty Classic last season she was able to set a new Cardinal record of 841 which is the highest 4-game series for the Cardinals. Geiger played 66 games where she knocked down 11,932 pins as she tied VanHorn for the highest average on the team at 180.8. Hughes participated in 60 games and was able to average 177.2 pins per game for third on the team.

 

Alyvia Hock bowled 47 total games throughout the season as she averaged 170.9 pins. Isabell Cooley, Amanda Fisher, and Emily Morris' averages were all around each other as they had a 163.5, 161.2, and 158.2 averages respectively. 

 

The final three bowlers are Arielle Oakley, Kara Ward, and Karissa Chibbaro who all averaged 154.5, 153.6, and 142 respectively. 

 

Team Highlight

As a team, the Cardinals saw success as they placed fourth twice, both at the Cornerstone Invitational and the Scotty Classic.

 

At the Kegal Collegiate Classic, the Cardinals were able to post a score that broke in at third in the record books with a score of 935.6 as Isabell Cooley, Amanda Fisher, Shannon Geiger, Alyvia Hock, Emilee Hughes, Gabriella VanHorn all were apart of that team.

 

The second time the Cardinals broke into the record books was at the BGSU Classic where they bowled a 908 score with Isabell Cooley, Amanda Fisher, Shannon Geiger, Alyvia Hock, Emilee Hughes, Arielle Oakley, Gabriella VanHorn all having a part of the team.

 

2022-23 Schedule

After the Rochester Classic this weekend the Cards will travel to the Midwest Collegiate Championship on the 1st and 2nd of October. The 8th of October will feature the first WHAC Jamboree of the season that will be hosted by Lawrence Tech. With a couple of weeks off the 29th and 30th will feature the Cards traveling to the American Heartland Tournament.

 

November will see the Cards participate in two different tournaments. On the 5th will be the second of the WHAC Jamborees which will be hosted by Madonna. The only other time the team will hit the lanes in November will be on the 19th at the Falcon Classic.

 

December features the third WHAC Jamboree and a trip to Las Vegas for the Glenn Carson Invitational and the Collegiate Shootout. The Jamboree will be on December 12th, while the Cards will be in Las Vegas from the 18th to the 21st. 

 

The only time Concordia hits the lanes in January will be at the Kegal Collegiate Classic on the 14th and 15th of the month.

 

As we head into February the Cards will travel to four different events including the 4th WHAC Jamboree on the 4th, the Scotty Classic on the 11th, the Hoosier Classic on the 18th and 19th, and will round out the month with the WHAC Championships on the 25th. 

 

The month of March will mainly feature postseason play for the ISC Sectionals and the ITC Sectionals March 10th-12th. The NAIA National Championships will be on March 23rd-25th, if the Cardinals qualify in order to participate.
