Volleyball battles hard against Warriors, drops match 3-1

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals volleyball team came home for a short one-game homestand to take on the Warriors of Indiana Tech on Wednesday evening. This was the second matchup between the two teams as the previous one went to the Warriors, 3-0.

Concordia came in with an overall record of 12-12 while they were 8-6 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play. While the Warriors came in at 20-10 and 12-4 in WHAC play.

Kayla Peters led the team with 14 kills on the night while Breann June was second with nine. Abigail Austin once again led the team with 30 assists. McKenzie Peters led the defensive backline with 21 digs. 


Set 1 - IIT 25, CUAA 21


The Cardinals and Warriors would battle it throughout most of the first set as teams were tied at 12-12. Indiana Tech would start to take a lead in the set as they would go on a 7-2, which would put them up 23-16. Kills from Abigail Austin and Kayla Peters would draw the Cards closer, but ultimately the Warriors would take set one. 


Set 2 - IIT 25, CUAA 15


The Warriors would control the majority of the set as they stormed out to an 18-10 lead. A couple of kills from Tara Drinane would attempt to spark the Cards but to no avail. 


Set 3 - CUAA 25, IIT 16


Concordia was able to come out strong in the third set as Korie Fowler helped the Cards with four straight serves to score. After two Indiana Tech points, Kaitlin Viehl would have five straight service points, where she and Kayla Peters would record some kills. Taking advantage of some Indiana Tech errors and kills from Kayla Peters and Tara Drinane would give Concordia set four.


Set 4 - IIT 25, CUAA 17 


Set four started and Indiana Tech would nab the early lead. Following a Concordia timeout, McKenzie Peters would aid the Cards with eight straight serves that would give the Cards the 12-9 lead. With both teams battling the score would hit 18-17 before the Warriors would strike with the final seven points of the match. 


The Cardinals will travel to rival Siena Heights, for their final away match of the regular season, on Friday, October 29 with the match beginning at 7 PM.
