Cheer opens up season with win at Marian Invite

(Indianapolis, IN) Concordia Cheer kicked off their season with a competition down at Marian Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals came away with the victory, scoring an 83.17 which put them over a point clear from second place Indiana Wesleyan.

The Cardinals had a subtotal of 85.67 before 2.50 points of deductions brought them down to their final score of 83.17. That score is currently the highest in the NAIA on the young season. Concordia received high marks in running tumbling, not getting a score lower than 9.30 in the skill. The Cards received scores of 9.00 or higher in basket tosses and standing tumbling as well.

"This season has been a pretty untraditional start for us," said Head Coach Kate Edge. "We are proud of how they fought through every inch of this first competition. We will continue to work on execution and improving each week."

Next up for Concordia will be their competition at the Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT) as they look to defend their title for a fifth straight time, having won the first four iterations of the competition. The comp will be held at Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday, January 27th.
