NAIA CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW: Cheer set for eighth straight appearance in NAIA National Championships

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals are preparing to make a run at their second National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championship this weekend as they are making their eighth straight appearance at the event.

 

The Cardinals earned an automatic bid into the Championship after winning their sixth straight WHAC Championship last month.

The NAIA Championship will feature 15 teams. Those teams included are Concordia (Mich.), Cumberlands (ky.), Dickinson State (N.D.), Georgetown (Ky.), Florida Memorial, Indiana Wesleyan, MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.), Midland (Neb.), Missouri Valley, Northwestern (Iowa), Oklahoma City, Saint Mary (Kan.), St. Ambrose (Iowa), Tennessee Southern, and Xavier (La.).

 

The event will feature two rounds, one on each day of competition. The first routine will be the preliminary round and will count towards 25% of the overall score, while the second competition on day 2 will make up the remaining 75%. In the event of a tie, the score from the finals will be used to break the tie. 

 


2023 RESULTS

St. Ambrose took home their first-ever NAIA National Cheer title after posting a record-breaking score of 95.51. 

 

The Cardinals took the runner-up spot at the final event of the season after moving from fourth to second and posting an overall score of 90.76. 

 


2023-24 SEASON REVIEW

CUAA competed in seven different events this season, placing first in five of the events. Only six of the contests are countable towards the season average. 

 

Celina Hinojosa took home the top spot in the WHAC this season as she was named the Cheerleader of the Year as she headlined a total of eight Cardinals being named to WHAC teams. Hinojosa was joined by Brianca Hrynciw, Zion Moorman, Eunique Robinson, and Zoe Genette on the first team, with Molly Bartels, Hailey Hoyle, and Alexia Glaze all being named to the second team.

 

The Cardinals brought home their fifth-straight Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT) title in late January.
