SEASON PREVIEW: Football surges into the 2024 season by hosting Olivet Nazarene

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia football has been hard at work preparing for the 2024 season. The Cardinals will host Olivet Nazarene this Saturday, August 31st, at 1pm at Ferry Field at Cardinal Stadium. CUAA aims to build off a 7-3 season last year with a goal to make a NAIA post-season run. Coach Joshua Schumacher enters his 8th season as head coach of the program.

2023 SEASON REVIEW 

Concordia finished 7-3 overall and 4-3 in the MSFA Mideast last year. The Cardinals started 5-0 including a thrilling victory over NCAA Division II Wayne State University. CUAA closed out the year with a 21-10 upset of #3 Indiana Wesleyan.   

 


2024 SCHEDULE OUTLOOK 

The Cardinals host Olivet Nazarene in a MSFA crossover match this Saturday, August 31st at 1pm. CUAA will stay at home on September 7th with a contest against new Mideast Division member, Defiance College. The team will head on the road to #7 Marian on September 14th for a critical test. The Cardinals return home on September 21st to host Saint Francis (IL). The month closes out with an important road tilt at #9 Saint Xavier on September 28th.   

 

The month of October begins with another road contest at Judson on October 5th. After a bye week, the Cardinals return home for homecoming to host Madonna on October 19th. A rivalry game against Siena Heights follows at home a week later on October 26th.   

 

On November 2nd the team faces another key road test at #6 Indiana Wesleyan. The Cardinals will hold their final regular season home game on November 9th against Lawrence Tech. The regular season concludes with a contest at Taylor on November 16th.

PRESEASON POLLS 

The Cardinals enter the 2024 season receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches Poll. In the MSFA Mideast, Indiana Wesleyan checks in at #6. In the MSFA Midwest, Marian earned the #7 ranking while Saint Xavier secured the #9 rank.   

 

In the MSFA Mideast Coaches Preseason Poll, the Cardinals are projected to finish second while receiving 2 first place votes. Indiana Wesleyan is predicted to finish first while earning 4 first place votes. Marian came in first in the MSFA Midwest Coaches Preseason Poll with Saint Xavier a close second.   

 


As announced on June 13th by CUWAA President Erik Ankerberg, the 2024-25 Academic Year will serve as the final season for CUAA Athletics.
