(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia football hosted Defiance College on Saturday afternoon for their second straight home game. The Cardinals blanked the Yellow Jackets in the first half and cruised to a 34-10 victory.
Colby Kohmescher threw for 116 yards and had 2 touchdowns. Brandon Stewart led the ground attack with 127 yards and 2 touchdowns. Harmon Devries led receivers at 49 yards. Jordan Garcia and Seeger DeGayner each notched a receiving touchdown along with 40 and 25 yards respectively.
On defense, Chase Maynard led the team with 11 tackles. Liam Karry came in second with 8 tackles. David Cagle and Gabe Whitmore each had 7 tackles apiece.
Concordia kicked off to Defiance to open the game. After both teams traded defensive stops, the Cardinals struck first toward the end of the first quarter. Colby Kohmescher connected with Jordan Garcia for a 23-yard touchdown to put CUAA ahead 7-0.
In the second quarter, both defenses continued to exchange stops. The Cardinals converted again with three explosive plays. Seeger DeGayner gained 22 yards on an end-around and was taken to the ground on a horse collar tackle adding 15 yards. Jon Jasionowski made a 21-yard reception leading to Brandon Stewart breaking a 29-yard touchdown run. Caiden Thomas tacked on a 25-yard field goal and CUAA led 17-0 at halftime.
Caiden Thomas kicked a 37-yard field goal on the opening series of the third quarter. The Cardinals scored again later when Brandon Stewart broke a 44-yard run and eventually powered his way into the endzone for a 4-yard touchdown. Defiance was able to break the shutout, but CUAA still led 24-7 at the end of the third quarter.
Concordia added one more touchdown when Colby Kohmescher lofted a 25-yard touchdown pass over the defense to Seeger DeGayner. The Cardinals held Defiance to just one more field goal and secured a 34-10 win as time expired.
