(Streamwood, IL) - Concordia football traveled to Judson University on Saturday night for an MSFA crossover match played under the lights. The Cardinal offense started rolling early and the team cruised to a 45-6 win.
Colby Kohmescher threw for 180 yards and a touchdown. Brandon Stewart led the ground attack with 76 yards and three touchdowns. James Carpenter added 41 rush yards and a touchdown. Jordan Garcia led receivers with 66 yards, while Bailey Brooks added 43 receiving yards and a touchdown.
On defense, Chase Maynard led the team with five tackles. Ethan Burrows, Kelly Matthews and Parker Shuman tied for second with three tackles apiece. Davion Coats had an interception for a "pick 6" along with two tackles.
CUAA received the opening kickoff to start the game. The Cardinals made a 6-play, 54-yard drive capped by a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Brandon Stewart. After a quick three-and-out by the defense, Colby Kohmescher found Jordan Garcia for a 52-yard gain. James Carpenter punched in a 2-yard rushing touchdown to finish the drive. On the next series, Davion Coats made an interception and returned it 33 yards for a touchdown. CUAA led 21-0 after the first quarter.
The Cardinals extended their lead with a 9-play, 87-yard scoring drive early in the second quarter. A 40-yard reception by Logan Hay picked up a big chunk of yardage and Bailey Brooks hauled in a 24-yard touchdown. Brandon Stewart added a 20-yard rushing TD later in the quarter and CUAA held a 35-0 advantage at halftime.
Gabe Whitmore made an interception in the endzone to stop Judson's opening drive in the third quarter. Brandon Stewart eventually capped a 12-play, 80-yard drive with a 10-yard touchdown marking his third score of the day. CUAA held a 42-0 lead after the third quarter.
Judson was able to break the shutout in the fourth quarter, but the Cardinal defense denied a 2-point conversion attempt. Caiden Thomas tacked on a 39-yard field goal and CUAA secured a 45-6 victory as time expired.
CUAA will have a bye week next Saturday. The Cardinals will return home for Homecoming on Saturday, October 19th, to host Madonna University at 1pm on Ferry Field at Cardinal Stadium.
